Hopewell City Public Schools is Hiring a Spanish Teacher- High School (2024-25 SY) Near Hopewell, VA

QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates should possess a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Spanish, Education, or a related field. State teaching certification in Spanish Education or a relevant subject area is required. Proficiency in Spanish language skills, encompassing speaking, listening, reading, and writing, is essential. Prior experience teaching Spanish at the middle school level is preferred. Knowledge of Spanish language acquisition theories, instructional strategies, and assessment methods is necessary. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are crucial for effective teaching. The ability to create engaging and culturally relevant lesson plans and activities is desired. Candidates must demonstrate a commitment to fostering language proficiency and cultural competence among students. Fluency in both English and Spanish is preferred.

DESCRIPTION

The High School Spanish Teacher is responsible for providing comprehensive Spanish language instruction to high school students, fostering language acquisition, cultural awareness, and communication skills in Spanish.

GENERAL DUTIES (May not include all duties performed)

  • Develop and implement a Spanish language curriculum aligned with state standards and educational objectives.
  • Teach students fundamental language skills, including vocabulary, grammar, pronunciation, and conversation.
  • Introduce students to Spanish-speaking cultures, customs, and traditions through authentic texts, media, and activities.
  • Facilitate interactive language practice and communication activities to engage students in meaningful language use.
  • Assess student language proficiency using a variety of methods, including oral interviews, written assignments, and performance tasks.
  • Provide feedback and support to students to help them develop language fluency and proficiency.
  • Incorporate technology and multimedia resources into Spanish instruction to enhance learning and engagement.
  • Collaborate with colleagues, language specialists, and community resources to enrich Spanish language learning experiences.
  • Communicate regularly with parents regarding student progress, language proficiency goals, and opportunities for cultural enrichment.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to improve teaching skills, explore new instructional strategies, and stay current with language education trends.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

SUPERVISION

Work is performed under the direct supervision of the School Principal.

WORK CONDITIONS

The duties are primarily carried out within the school setting. The role involves performing professional tasks that offer support and consultation for the assigned department or program. This work often entails frequent standing, sitting, walking, and light lifting. Certain assignments may have deadlines as they involve customizing and delivering programs to cater to diverse groups' needs. Additionally, employees may be called upon to provide emergency and non-emergency health-related services for students as required.
