SUMMARY OF JOB:
The Infusion Nurse collaborates with the members of the interdisciplinary team to provide comprehensive patient care, in an outpatient home setting. The infusion nurse is responsible for patient education, administration of IV therapy, hydration and other medications under the direction and supervision of a physician. The nurse is responsible for assessing, prioritizing, and monitoring of the patient under their care, and providing education regarding therapy and treatment associated with specific medications. The infusion nurse utilizes critical thinking skills is assessing patient symptoms to determine appropriate education and support. The infusion nurse works collaboratively with the physician and pharmacist regarding dosage modifications, problems, and symptom management, and is responsible for documentation of nursing assessments, patient teaching and fluid and medication administration in the patient record, as well as communicating all pertinent information and any interventions to the physician and care team, as appropriate. Patient care functions for the infusion nurse also include the assessment of patient/family needs and provision of teaching and other instructional material.
