Description

The Construction Department Manager is responsible for managing and overseeing the coordination of utility construction projects for the entire company. This includes communication with both internal and external customers, set-up and tracking progress of projects, assembling project folders, and calling in locates. This candidate must possess excellent communication skills and attention to detail to effectively maintain contact with company leadership, work crews, and customers.

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Manage and maintain a team of Construction Coordinators, ensuring even workload distribution.
  • Monitor and assist in the ongoing development of Construction Coordinators.
  • Ensure effective communication with HBI leadership and customers regarding project statuses.
  • Provide training, guidance, direction, and expertise to Construction Coordinators.
  • Ensure consistent and precise communication throughout the Construction Department.
  • Coordinate with the Material Coordinator to ensure proper materials for each project.
  • Obtain correct permits from local municipalities and schedule locates accurately and timely with Digger’s Hotline.
  • Ensure accurate understanding and utilization of customer units.
  • Compile and distribute project documents, including prints, maps, and other instructions/documents.
  • Direct construction crews on daily project priorities and coordinate projects in advance for consistent workload.
  • Maintain a spreadsheet of emergency contacts for all areas where crews are working.
  • Perform additional projects/tasks as directed by the President and/or Executive Management.

Required Skills, Experience, Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 – 5 years of supervisory experience preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 – 5 years of customer service experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with the utility construction industry preferred.
  • Valid, insurance-acceptable driver’s license.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to interpret geographical maps accurately.
  • Ability to work independently and in a group, multitask, and shift focus as priorities change.
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Willingness to take a week-long rotation with the 24-hour construction emergency phone.
  • Flexibility with working hours and ability to act as a Construction Coordinator when needed.
