JOB SUMMARY

Prepares and paints a wide variety of parts and equipment. Read work orders or receive instructions from supervisors or work orders to determine work requirements. Erect scaffolding and swing gates, or set up ladders, to work above ground level. Remove fixtures such as pictures, door knobs, lamps, and electric switch covers prior to painting.

MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Mix and match colors of paint, stain, or varnish with oil and thinning and drying additives in order to obtain desired colors and consistencies.
• Prepares walls, millwork, and cabinetry surfaces for painting. Performs minor repairs on wall surfaces where necessary.
• Paints a wide variety of surfaces including walls, buildings, parts, and equipment.
• Paints a wide variety of surfaces including walls, buildings, parts, and equipment.
• Washes and treats surfaces with oil, turpentine, mildew remover, or other preparations, and sand rough spots to ensure that finishes adhere properly.

EDUCATION

High School Diploma or GED

WORK EXPERIENCE

SKILL AND/OR REQUIRED LICENSING/CERTIFICATION

Detailed knowledge of paints, solvents, lacquer, shellac, and painting equipment.

LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES

No supervisory or direct people management responsibilities. May provide occasional work guidance, technical advice and training to staff.

WORK COMPLEXITY/INDEPENDENT JUDGMENT

Work involves the application of moderately complex procedures and tasks that are quite varied. Independent judgment is often required to select and apply the most appropriate of available resources. Ongoing supervision is provided on an "as needed" basis.
