The Senior Data Engineer builds software functionality and participates actively in the delivery team by taking on development responsibilities for the SQL database backend and supports developers with the entire tech stack. The Senior Data Engineer contributes to the quality of the product while working closely with the Product Team to develop software that meets the acceptance criteria of stories. They will work in a highly motivated technical environment with like-minded team members. They will have a real passion for development and a demonstrated appetite for continual learning, typically manifested in their community contributions (e.g., open-source work, publishing / speaking on technical ideas).

Essential Functions:

• Contribute to the development of applications ensuring that the code follows latest coding practices and industry standards
• Coordinate and interact in the business logic and backend systems of the MVP experience
• Work closely with other Software Engineers and Quality Assurance Engineers to understand the system end-to-end
• Creates awareness of changes to upstream applications and any impacts to the data structures
• Pursue high-standard engineering principles to build a scalable, reliable, and maintainable data platform
• Contribute to unit, integration, and functional automation tests
• Develop high quality, well documented, and efficient code
• Challenge ideas and opinions to avoid pitfalls and inefficient solutions
• Build using modern design patterns and architectural principles
• Constant innovation in improving our products and how we deliver them.

What you will need to be successful:

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, IT or other related field; or equivalent work experience
• A minimum of five (5) years of SQL server software development experience
• Seen as a keen learner within the technical components of the domains/products
• Familiarity with Agile ceremonies and methodology to reinforce technical development best practices is a plus
• Passionate to learn new technologies and strives towards cross-functional development
• Significant experience writing SQL procedures, views and queries and performance tuning large scale apps (preferably MS SQL)
• Demonstrated experience with database design concepts and effective data storage principles
• Demonstrated experience with data reporting systems, with knowledge of Tableau or equivalent
• Additional experience with HTML, CSS/LESS/SCSS/etc., JavaScript, and integrating with JavaScript frameworks, such as React, Angular JS is a plus
• Responsive Design and GA release concepts
• Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills, self-directed and takes ownership.
• Strong fundamentals within coding technologies and a willingness to wear multiple hats when needed.
• Ability to articulate complex ideas and concepts to non-technical team members
• Highly quantitative with great judgment and passion for building a great customer experience.
