The Assistant Director of Development will work closely with the Executive Director, Senior Director of Development and Communications, and Development Associate to strategize and implement Columbia/Barnard Hillel’s development and communications plan, including meeting an annual fundraising goal of $1.9 million.

What You’ll Do

  • Steward and solicit a portfolio of donors up to $7,500 - by email, phone, and in-person
  • Coordinate and execute the Annual Dinner, Columbia/Barnard Hillel’s annual fundraising gala
  • Plan additional department events, including Reunion Shabbat Dinner and stewardship gatherings
  • Build and implement a strategy to engage and solicit recent alumni, including by establishing and maintaining a Young Alumni Board
  • In partnership with the Director of the Grad Network, coordinate events that engage young alumni (both undergraduate and graduate) and current graduate students

  • Prepare proposals and one pagers to present as giving opportunities to prospects and current donors

What You’ve Accomplished

  • Bachelor’s degree required and 3-6 years of professional work experience in fundraising and/or related areas; additional experience in event planning, and/or face-to-face and phone solicitations preferred
  • Knowledge of an experience with donor database systems, communications and mass email platforms, and online giving technologies
  • Experience as a volunteer or professional in a Jewish organization is a plus

What You’ll Bring to the Job

  • Strong entrepreneurial spirit and creativity - a willingness to try new things and innovate
  • Understanding of current trends, with an ability to recommend and implement plans to increase donors, contributions, and identify new opportunities
  • Close attention to detail
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Exemplary time management skills, including the capacity to juggle competing priorities and deadlines, and to remain flexible within a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work both on a team and independently
  • Pride in the accuracy and presentation of your work

What You’ll Receive

  • Competitive salary in the nonprofit marketplace. The salary range for this role is $70,000-95,000, commensurate with experience
  • A comprehensive benefits package, including health insurance, retirement plan, Life, AD&D and Long Term Disability (LTD) insurances, Flexible Spending accounts, generous vacation/sick time, and parental leave.
  • Great professional development, mentoring, and skill building opportunities
  • Dedicated and fun colleagues who will support you along the way
