The Advisor is a staff position designed to provide holistic advising and support services to ensure student retention and success. Advisors will report to the Director of Enrollment Services and collaborate with other advisors, recruiters, administrative staff, and faculty to oversee the college's effectiveness in meeting the needs of the students.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Must attend Master Advisor training and maintain Master Advisor status.
  • Monitor, coach, and advise an assigned caseload of students.
  • Assist students with onboarding processes including admissions, financial aid, and registration.
  • Provide academic advising to all students via in-person, email, telephone, or Zoom appointments.
  • Refer students to on and off-campus resources to meet their needs outside of the classroom (tutoring, etc.).
  • Reach out to students based on a faculty-driven early alert system.
  • Work with students on program of study requirements.
  • Assist students with degree planning.
  • Assist students in creating academic plans for financial aid appeals and fresh start applications
  • Encourage student involvement with student clubs, organizations, and community service events.
  • Assist with planning and facilitation of the New Student Orientation events.
  • Assist with developing communication plans to reach students about retention and completion opportunities.
  • Assist with recruitment events, registration events, and other Enrollment Services programs and projects.
  • Develop a Peer Mentoring program that ensures the attainment of specific learning outcomes for the Peer Mentors and establishes an assessment method to track the students receiving services provided by the mentors.
  • Select, train, and supervise Peer Mentors who will work closely with students throughout the advising and registration processes.
  • Maintain records for assigned students and ensure data integrity is maintained between Peer Mentors and students.
  • Promote innovative and best practice policies and procedures that improve program effectiveness.
  • Prepare TBR Relational Advising Grant mid-year and end-of-year reports for review one week before the required due dates of January 31 and May 24.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Working Conditions:
Sedentary: Desk work; travel will be required for college or program activities. Evening and weekend hours will be required. Normal range of movement is expected. Ability to lift at least 30 lbs. Minimal Hazard/Exposure: Standard office settings. At least minimal environmental controls to assure health and comfort. Besides frequent person to person interactions with students, faculty and staff, this position requires significant communication by telephone and other electronic means (e.g. email, etc.)
Required Qualifications:
Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely, verbally and in writing. Knowledge of modern office practices, procedures, and equipment including on-line computer systems, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and email programs. Willingness to learn new software applications. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Must be able to maintain an effective relationship with all constituencies.
Minimum Requirements of Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited university.
Four years of experience in student affairs at the postsecondary level.
Preferred Qualifications:
Community College experience is preferred.
Experience with Banner Student Information System.
Minimum starting salary is $40,600 annually ($20.82 per hour). With additional experience pay increases to a maximum pay of $50,700.
