Role Description

Management and Supervision

1. Supervise counseling and case management staff and graduate interns as assigned and complete performance evaluations as indicated.

2. Oversee the facilitation and supervise bi-weekly clinical coaching groups for clinical and direct service staff as assigned, including at least one coaching group for Member Navigators as part of the PSN grant.

3. Support the overall functioning of a milieu-based interdisciplinary team, in collaboration with the Director of Counseling & Case Management.

4. Act as interim Director of Counseling & Case Management in the event Director is on leave.

Clinical Responsibilities and Program Monitoring

1. Oversee the day-to-day operations and efficacy of the counseling & case management team, including crisis management as well as the work of both the Intake Coordinator and Clinical Coordinator as part of ensuring consistent high quality clinical services are being provided to youth members.

2. Support the assessment, planning and design of all departmental functions/programs (inclusive of Intake and Assessment, Age-Out Support, On-Call Counseling and Crisis Intervention, Support Groups, Psychiatric Services, Bereavement Initiative, annual youth retreat weekend, etc.) in collaboration with the Director of Counseling & Case Management.

3. Facilitate the integration of Liberation-focused, anti-oppressive and BIPOC youth-centered alternative healing methodologies in collaboration with the Director of Counseling & Case Management.

4. Support team members in conducting assessment, problem definition, treatment planning and case coordination of youth to support stabilization and participation in HMI programs and in school with anti-oppressive methodologies.

5. In collaboration with the Director of Counseling & Case Management, support with research proposals, publications and data collection processes centering clinical work at HMI.

Administrative Duties

1. Support Director of Counseling and Case Management Services with the facilitation of bi-weekly YSD care coordination or team meeting as needed.

2. Facilitate weekly counseling & case management team meeting.

3. Participates in Youth Services Departmental Management Team Meeting.

4. In collaboration with the Director of Counseling & Case Management, oversee the day-to-day functions of the management team as well as the Clinical Coordinator and Intake Coordinator to ensure clear staffing and procedures are in place, including the following:

a. Data entry for all clinical case notes and group notes.

b. Treatment planning and group planning documentation.

c. Crisis response procedures and outcomes for youth members (including cool-down plans).

d. Interviewing, selection and onboarding procedures for new staff and interns.

e. Other critical policies and procedures as needed.

5. Oversee the development of program designs as determined by clinical trends, community needs, and contractual requirements.

6. Support Director in the development, oversight, and management of contract/grant budgets for the Counseling & Case Management Department.

7. Collaborate with other HMI departments and outside agencies to optimize the efficacy and reach of the clinical work.

8. Support the Director of Counseling and Case Management with vision and goal setting of the team to be in alignment with emerging clinical issues, modalities and tools as related to therapy and wellness through anti-oppressive, Liberation-focused mental health and issues specific to LGBTQIA and BIPOC youth.

9. Grant Management: Support with monitoring the meeting of all contractual requirements within Counseling and Case Management department to meet compliance standards.

10. Grant Management: Support the Director of Counseling & Case Management with any grant reporting needs, including writing updates or monthly reports as directed.

11. Program Evaluation: Collaborate with Director and agency evaluator team in use of effective and targeted evaluation tools to evaluate success of program design in achieving program outcomes and overall agency mission.

12. Program Evaluation: Support and departmental efforts to use evaluation data to inform program creation, re-design and ongoing oversight.

13. Hiring: Assist with filling any vacancies in the department including resume review, interviewing candidates and providing feedback.

14. Participate in Development functions as directed.

15. Meet and exceed all compliance standards for HMI and contracts by meeting deadlines, meeting outcomes and maintaining best practices in the delivery of service.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  1. LCSW, LMSW or LCAT Licensure required.
  2. At least five years experience with diverse population of adolescents in an urban setting, including knowledge of lesbian, gay, bisexual transgender and questioning youth from various cultures and backgrounds.
  3. SIFI certification (or similar certification credential) and 3 years supervisory experience with staff and/or graduate interns preferred.
  4. Ability to exercise independent judgment when appropriate; strong decision-making skills.
  5. Strong oral and written communication skills.
  6. Experience facilitating group discussions and managing a variety of small and large group dynamics.
  7. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including conflict mediation and public speaking.
  8. Knowledge of harm reduction practices, trauma-informed care, and positive youth development models.

Computer Skills: Strong with proficiency in Zoom, Doxy, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.

Additional Desirable Qualifications:

  1. Experience working within a systems or family approach, Trauma-Informed Care and Positive Youth Development models in the treatment of adolescents.
  2. Strong knowledge of cultural competency issues.

Working Conditions:

  1. Work primarily in 2 Astor Place, NYC, except for Outreach work
  2. Program work schedule:

Monday-Friday

3 days a week 9am-5pm

2 days a week 12pm-8pm

Flexibility required at times to support agency needs.
