The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine (HJF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing military medicine. We serve military, medical, academic and government clients by administering, managing and supporting preeminent scientific programs that benefit members of the armed forces and civilians alike. Since its founding in 1983, HJF has served as a vital link between the military medical community and its federal and private partners. HJF's support and administrative capabilities allow military medical researchers and clinicians to maintain their scientific focus and accomplish their research goals. 
HJF is seeking a Training Specialist I. The incumbent is responsible for assisting the Project Manager for Training and Development of the Diagnostics and Countermeasures Branch (DCB), within the Center for Infectious Disease Research (CIDR) of the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research (WRAIR) in managing, developing, centralizing, tracking, and monitoring all training and re-training activities.
DCB works to provide effective, state-of-art diagnostic countermeasures (clinical and research) to ensure Military force health and readiness. The Branch efforts include the development of new diagnostic assays, identification of optimal diagnostic testing platforms, assays and algorithms using evidenced based approaches for the Military. The incumbent will work directly with the Project Manager for Training and Development, and other DCB colleagues, to successfully support and manage a DCB training program for all staff and in strict accordance with DCB’s standard operating procedures (SOPs), Good Clinical Laboratory Practices (GCLP) and accrediting agencies to include CAP, Department of Defense (DoD) Clinical Laboratory Information Program (CLIP), and the U.S Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The incumbent will assist in developing training curriculums, coordinating training events, scheduling training, and assisting in preparation of training materials for virtual or in-person training events as needed or required.
Hybrid work arrangement is available for those in the DC/MD/VA area.
Responsibilities:
  • Reports directly to the Project Manager for Training and Development within DCB.
  • Works in collaboration with the Project Manager for Training and Development, DCB Operations, scientific and technical staff, and the Quality Assurance Group, to develop curriculums, training, in-service programs, and targeted continuing education to ensure all the required training objectives set forth by DCB’s Leadership and accrediting agencies are met.
  • Assists in the design, maintenance, and delivery of new training curriculums and presentations for all staff within DCB and helps in teaching courses based on the identified needs.
  • Helps prepare training analysis reports on a quarterly or as needed basis.
  • Conducts research, literature, or regulation reviews to support the course or curriculum development for training or cross-training within DCB.
  • Assists to deploy new training techniques, monitor impact of topics and information conveyed, analyze effectiveness through course evaluations, and reports on course completion, as required.
  • Responsible for ensuring staff training folders are created, managed, and updated in a timely manner by performing routine audits of training folders in collaboration with work unit Managers and generating audit reports as per regulatory requirements and DCB’s policies and procedures.
  • Assists in the coordination of training events to include DCB’s All Hands Meetings and other group wide trainings.
  • Assists in the training of trainers, stays current on new training techniques and important methods for conveying information to include but not limited to, visual, hands-on application, theory, understanding how to interact with personnel, support of deployment of the MasterControl training module and tracking of all trainings within DCB.
  • Performs on-site evaluations of training events and generates training reports as needed.
  • Tracks and completes all relevant training projects in a timely manner.
  • May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role.
 Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s Degree required.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years experience required.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Experience in training development, training program monitoring and evaluation.
  • Background or experience with curriculum design and development.
  • Excellent oral, interpersonal, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently or with colleagues, when needed, to develop trainings to address specific recurring issues; excellent time management and organizational skills, ability to prioritize work and projects; knowledge of instruction design/training, training methodology, and adult instruction/learning principles and theories.
Physical Capabilities:
  • Lifting: Requires lifting materials up to 10 lbs.
Work Environment:
  • This position will take place primarily in an office setting.
 Some positions or sites may require that the incumbent be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Proof of vaccination may be required.
