Hennepin County is Hiring a Social Work Unit Supervisor - Children's Mental Health Near , MN

Description

The Behavioral Health Service area is seeking a Social Work Unit Supervisor to join the Children's Mental Health (CMH) Case Management team. This position will provide supervision, consultation, and direct the work of a team of CMH case managers in accordance with state statute and department policies and procedures. You will also provide oversight to case managers providing Rule 79 case management services to youth with mental health diagnoses that meet severe emotional disturbance criteria who are involved in multiple systems (e.g., Child Protection, Juvenile Justice).

Location and hours:
This position is remote. Remote workers may be required to come on-site 0 to 12 days a year for work meetings, trainings, or for any other reasons that their supervisor may deem necessary (may include additional days for onboarding and new employee training). Supervisors will provide as much advance notice as practicable. Based on business needs of this position, hires must live in or relocate to Minnesota.


About this position type:
This is a full-time, benefit-earning position.
This position is internally classified as a Social Work Unit Supervisor.
Click hereto view the job classification specification. New employees who are hired into remote or hybrid positions between January 2, 2022 to December 31, 2024, will receive $500 toward the cost of establishing consistent internet connectivity, payable upon completion of 6 months of employment.

In this position, you will:
  • Provide supervision to case managers in accordance with state statute and department policies and procedures.
    • Conduct weekly individual meetings to monitor staff performance and provide the clinical supervision and necessary support to guide individuals who are proving case management services to ensure compliance with statute and department standards.
    • Provide ongoing consultation and collaboration with Social Workers and Supervisors in Child Protection, Children's Mental Health, Child Welfare, Juvenile Corrections, and Developmental Disabilities around youth with challenging mental health needs.
    • Review client related documentation to understand the needs of the youth.
    • Select and develop case management staff within CMH that includes planning and assigning work and evaluating performance.
    • Support staff through transformational change and cultural shifts to address systemic racism and reduce racial disparities.
  • Ensure service delivery is in accordance with program and county policies, core values, and mission, rules, regulations, and statues governing mental health crisis intervention, and sound clinical practice.
  • Monitor budgets, ensuring alignment between area and department standards.
  • Provide leadership to further department-based strategies that align with county goals, mission and core values for diversity, equity and inclusion.
Need to have:
  • Active license as an Independent Clinical Social Worker by the Minnesota Board of Social Work.
  • One of the following:
    • Six years or more of experience as a Senior/Psychiatric/Child Protection Social Worker at Hennepin County.
    • Bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, sociology, or human services, and 27 quarter credits or more of graduate work in areas such as social work methods, human growth and behavior, principles of social welfare, and four years or more of supervised experience as a social worker.
    • Master's degree or higher in social work or closely related field (or licensed as a graduate social worker by the Minnesota Board of Social Work) and three years or more of experience as a social worker.

  • Experience:
    • In a supervisory or leadership role.
    • Interacting with youth and families from diverse backgrounds.
    • Serving youth and families involved in multiple systems (e.g. Child Protection, Child Welfare, Waivered Services, Developmental Disabilities).
    • Providing trauma informed care to youth and families with complex needs.
    • Working with children with mental health needs.
    • Utilizing case management programs.
  • Knowledge of:
    • Statutory regulations related to children's mental health targeted case management, Rule 79.
    • Best practices in children's mental health interventions, systems, and resources.
    • CADI waiver eligibility and service delivery.
    • Trauma-informed and culturally competent practices.
    • Youth substance use disorders.
  • Ability to:
    • Identify and act on issues of race and racism and contributing toward work aimed to reduce racial disparities.
    • Build and nurture a collaborative working relationship with a variety of residents and partners including youth, parents, employees, community partners, and the public.
    • Embrace an environment that recognizes and respects cultural, lifestyle, and socioeconomic differences.
    • Lead staff through transformational and cultural changes.
    • Demonstrate excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
