Hennepin County's Information Technology (IT) Department is seeking an IT Project Manager to lead diverse teams in the completion of complex and challenging projects. This individual will serve as the main point of contact for projects and work independently to manage enterprise-wide and departmental projects and programs. The ideal candidate will have experience working within a Project Management Office and experience within the Agile and Waterfall methodologies, with a proven track record of being customer-focused and a capability of building relationships within the team and organization.The Hennepin County IT Department delivers innovative, effective, and timely business-driven information technology solutions in a secure, reliable, accessible, and fiscally responsible manner.Current Hennepin County employees who refer a candidate hired into an open competitive position may be eligible for a $500 referral bonus. For more information visit employee referral program. Candidates must have a right to work in the U.S. that is not based solely on possession of a student visa or a visa sponsored by an employer. Location and hours: This position is remote. Remote workers may be required to come on-site 0 to 12 days a year for work meetings, trainings, or for any other reasons that their supervisor may deem necessary (may include additional days for onboarding and new employee training). Supervisors will provide as much advance notice as practicable. Work hours are typically Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. While this position is designated as remote, based on current requirements hires must reside in or relocate to Minnesota. New employees who are hired into remote or hybrid positions between January 2, 2022 to December 31, 2024, will receive $500 toward the cost of establishing consistent internet connectivity, payable upon completion of 6 months of employment. About the position type: This is a full-time, benefit earning position. This position is internally classified as an Information Technology (IT) Project Manager II.Click here to view the job classification specification.At this time, employees may be eligible to receive an additional cash merit of up to $2488.11 that can be earned annually based on performance.In this position, you will: Define project scope and objectives; prepare project charter and all required project management documents according to department standards.Create and maintain project documentation such as charter, change forms, status reports, meeting minutes, presentations, and other communication items.Ensure project compliance with internal or relevant external policies and procedures; review project deliverables; ensure adherence to quality standards.Coordinate and guide project team and direct problem analysis and resolution.Execute project plans and revise as appropriate to meet approved change requests.Manage day-to-day operational aspects of assigned projects; monitor and report on project progress; provide appropriate status reports to stakeholders; serve as a single point of contact for projects.Be responsible for project tracking and issue/risk management; identify, analyze, and control risks and issues throughout the project to maximize positive results and minimize adverse events.Assist both team and purchasing division through contract negotiation and county board approval to meet project needs.Manage integration of vendor tasks; track and review vendor deliverables.Participate in the development and implementation of improved project management processes, guidelines, and metrics.Need to have: One of the following: Seven years or more of experience managing technology projects. Associate's degree in one of the below fields or approved certification in an IT program or Project Management Professional (PMP) certification and five or more years of experience managing technology projects.Approved Hennepin County IT internship or completion of five college/vocational technology courses and five or more years of IT experience.Bachelor's degree or higher in business administration, management information systems (MIS) or an approved related field and three or more years of experience managing technology projects.Nice to have: Project Management Professional (PMP) certified by Project Management Institute (PMI).Experience: With formal project management methodology (waterfall and agile).With project integration, scope, time, cost, quality, resource management, communications, risk management, and awareness of organizational change management.Working within a formal Project Management Office.Working in business and technical areas to assist customers and project teams with strategic and technical decisions.Using Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.Using online meeting collaboration platform such as Microsoft Teams.Using Microsoft SharePoint for project coordination and communication.Effective presentation, writing, and communication skills appropriate for any level in the organization.Knowledge of: IT systems and software development lifecycle (SDLC).Systems development methodology.Application development principles and process.Infrastructure and platforms.Ability to comply with and enforce county project management standards, practices and guidelines.About the department: Technology is the foundation of our work – and the work of every county employee.
