Healthcare For the Homeless Inc is Hiring a Senior Accountant - Agency and Private Grants Near Baltimore, MD

Overview 

Under the direct supervision of the Accounting Manager, the Senior Accountant – Agency & Private Grants is responsible for recording financial transactions, monitoring, and maintaining most aspects of the general ledger and the financial statement process. Because the general ledger is the main source of financial information for Health Care for the Homeless, this role is key to ensuring operational and financial effectiveness. The Sr. Accountant – Agency & Private Grants will also work closely with other Financial Department staff to ensure single yet full coverage of appropriate and eligible expenditures by available funding sources.

Key Role Responsibilities 

  • Effectively and accurately maintain the general ledger including the preparation and entry of journal entries into the accounting software, and account analysis
  • Effectively and accurately prepare reports with back up documentation on a timely basis, including ad hoc requests from various stakeholders
  • Responsible for most account reconciliations and financial analysis, including, but not limited to bank and investment reconciliations, cash projections, pre-paid and accrued expenses, depreciation and deferred revenue
  • Responsible for tracking, analysis and forecasting of 340b revenue
  • Review and approve journal entries prepared by staff accountant(s)
  • Thoroughly reviews incoming private awards, prepares financial reports as per required schedules, identifies variances and analyzes issues of cost appropriateness and allocations.
  • Creates and distributes timely reports and spending forecasts to a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Works collaboratively within the Finance Department to ensure coverage of appropriate and eligible expenditures by grant funding sources and provide general assistance as needed.
  • Assists with preparing for audits and tax-related submissions.

Knowledge, Experience, and Skills 

Formal Education and Training 

  • Bachelor’s Degree with a concentration in accounting

Experience  

  • Two years of progressively responsible grant accounting experience (e.g., general ledger maintenance, account reconciliation)
  • Advanced Excel and accounting software experience
  • Experience with automated general ledger and payroll systems, ADP WorkforceNow and MIP, preferred
