Job Summary:
This position oversees the day-to-day operations of the Nursing Administrative Services. Plans, directs and coordinates all operational activities for areas of responsibility. Develops policies and procedures as well as the quality improvement programs for areas of responsibility. Ensures areas of responsibility are appropriately staffed by hiring and retaining competent staff.
In this role you will:
Reviews departmental productivity levels and work functions to properly allocate human resources. Develops departmental goals for increased productivity, improved efficiencies, and enhanced customer service. Regularly benchmarks performance measures to identify best practice and directs implementation of necessary changes. Manages development and implementation of strategic plans. Monitors service line growth and recommends strategies based on operational statistics and market needs and trends. Develops and maintains relationships with physicians and other referral sources. Participate in initiatives to promote visibility of services.
Maintains current knowledge of health care trends and nursing practice. Assesses and improves the performance of care and services through involvement in the performance improvement plan. Forwards relevant information to the appropriate person(s) responsible for coordinating organization-wide performance improvement activities.
Serves as lead house supervisor and assists with house Supervision department operations. Serves as clinical consultant and role model for staff in the delivery of patient care and demonstrates effective leadership and care in emergency situations. Direct supervision of PRN pool staff and sitter pool – operations, scheduling. Oversees all nursing schedules and assists with Kronos as needed. Organizes, directs, and staffs assigned departments/services in a manner commensurate with the scope of services offered and in collaboration with the appropriate department Director.
Provides leadership and direction for staffing in accordance with the organizational goals and objectives as it pertains to House Supervision, Bed Management, PRN pool, Discharge Center etc. Incorporates population specific national standards of nursing practice and care. Assumes authority, accountability and responsibility for the formal and informal direction of others for assigned departments.
Vigilantly monitors cost management in alignment with patient volumes and revenue generation. Ensures sufficient personnel are available to accomplish departmental objectives within established financial guidelines. Manage fiscal operation of department using the budget as a guideline for revenue and expense analysis.
Develops new processes or services that include, when appropriate, business and financial justification. Concurrently analyzes department statistics on an ongoing basis to determine potential variances and adjust where necessary.
Development and ongoing maintenance of collaborative relationships
Ensures compliance with policies, procedures and standards that have been developed to ensure quality management and adherence to state, federal and accreditation organization requirements. Ensures regulatory standards and best practice guideline changes occur at the department level. Oversees continuous quality improvement initiatives by providing direction to department leaders and monitoring of interdisciplinary involvement in clinical projects. Promotes patient safety by reporting of issues through established channels and participating as requested in safety initiatives. Department standards are consistent with Hospital’s Plan for Patient Care. Conduct reinforces company values and promotes the Code of Conduct. Meets leadership obligations under the Ethics and Compliance Program.
Remains abreast of current practice standards and regulations. Maintains membership in professional and/or community organizations. Mentors professional development of direct reports through mentorship programs. Participates in activities to enhance professional growth and development through continuing education and involvement in professional organizations.
