HAZEN SAWYER is Hiring a Business Analyst Near Virginia, VA

Hazen and Sawyer has an exceptional opportunity for a self-motivated and dynamic individual to join our growing Utility Management Solutions Group. This opportunity involves working with multi-disciplinary teams of engineers, planners, and scientists to develop utility management and planning solutions for a wide array of water-related projects locally, regionally, and nationwide. The position also involves collaborating with our Asset Management and Digital Strategies and Solutions teams to leverage Hazen’s advanced planning services and data analytics platform to grow our delivery capacity. In addition, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to apply many of the analytical skills used in asset and utility management projects to assist engineering staff on other planning and design projects.

The successful candidate will be a strong communicator who enjoys working as part of a team, and will have the technical, organizational, and communication skills to:

  • Assist in the development of Utility Management tools and asset management solutions, such as structured databases and interactive business intelligence and data visualization dashboards
  • Collect, analyze, synthesize and report on various types of client data
  • Perform geospatial analysis of various water and wastewater systems using GIS
  • Perform on-site field activities such as field inventory and condition assessment
  • Assist with preparation of reports, workshops and presentations for clients, conferences, etc.
  • Perform life-cycle cost analysis of various asset types
  • Demonstrate proficiency in specialized modeling, technologies, or practices that help drive project delivery and business development
  • Participate in proposal development
  • Assist project teams to articulate requirements, develop solutions, and develop deliverable templates
  • Develop, maintain, and grow utility management expertise
  • Assist with the assessment of client needs/issues and strategize approaches/solutions with project teams
  • Assist on projects outside of the Utility Management Solutions Group, if desired

Minimum requirements for this position include:

  • BS in Business or STEM
  • 0-4 years of experience
  • Proficient computer skills (Word, Excel a must)
  • Working familiarity using and managing databases and using business intelligence tools such as Power BI or other related tools
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work with a team or independently
  • Ability to travel

The ideal candidate will also have one or more of the following:

  • MS in STEM or MBA
  • Geospatial analysis skills using GIS
  • Data mining or statistical analysis skills
  • Familiarity with typical corporate financial protocols and standards
  • Familiarity with scripting languages (Python, R), SQL, etc.
  • Familiarity with statistics, advanced data analytics, and machine learning
  • Familiarity with water quality and/or water/wastewater conveyance and treatment processes

This position is equally well-suited to business analysts, engineers and scientists who love executive-level planning and data analytics and who share our passion for water and the environment.
