Description
SUMMARY.
Under the direction of the Homeless Management Information System (HMIS) management team, the HMIS Database Administrator is responsible for supporting and enhancing the database which stores client information for the San Antonio/Bexar County Homeless Response System. The HMIS Database Administrator plays a crucial role in maintaining the integrity, security, and efficiency of our database infrastructure, ensuring seamless data management for our programs aimed at providing essential services to homeless individuals and families.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES.
  • Database Management:
    • Oversee and maintain an efficient and secure database system tailored to the unique needs of our Homeless Response System.
    • Monitor and optimize database performance, ensuring quick response times and high availability.
    • Lead efforts to create and maintain data archiving processes and procedures to improve system sustainability.
  • Data Security and Integrity:
    • Implement and monitor data security protocols to safeguard sensitive information related to homeless individuals and families.
    • Regularly perform data integrity checks and implement measures to address any inconsistencies or errors.
  • Backup and Recovery:
    • Develop and implement robust backup and recovery strategies to prevent data loss and minimize downtime in case of system failures.
    • Conduct periodic testing of backup and recovery procedures to ensure reliability.
  • Collaboration:
    • Collaborate with the Continuum of Care (CoC) Lead Agency and Participating Agencies to understand the specific data needs and requirements of homeless services programs.
    • Work closely with software vendor to integrate new functionalities and enhance existing database systems.
    • Coordinate with team members, software vendor, and third-party platforms to set up and maintain Application Programming Interface (API).
  • Documentation:
    • Maintain comprehensive documentation of database architectures, configurations, and procedures to facilitate efficient troubleshooting and knowledge transfer.
  • Performance Optimization:
    • Identify and address performance bottlenecks in the database system, optimizing queries, and recommending hardware or software upgrades as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
EDUCATION.
  • Bachelor degree Computer Science, Information Management or a related field is strongly preferred
  • Minimum High School Diploma or GED
EXPEREINCE.
  • Two to three years of experience in computer software and analytical skills
  • Experience working with non-profit organizations and in collaborative settings a plus
KNOWLDEGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES.
  • Proven experience as a Database Administrator, with a focus on managing databases for social services or similar domains.
  • Proficient in database management systems (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQL Server).
  • Knowledge of data security best practices and experience implementing security measures.
  • Adept at queries, report writing and presenting findings.
  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel, Access, and Power Point.
  • Ability to present complex information in an understandable and compelling manner.
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Familiarity with homeless services software or similar social services platforms.
  • Certification in Database Administration (e.g., Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate).
