Description
SUMMARY.
The Life Safety Officer works under limited supervision, provides security coverage to the Haven for Hope property, conducts foot patrols and security checks, monitors the property for unauthorized users, responds to incidents, reports hazards, and completes necessary reports during their shift. The Life Safety Officer will also assist the Haven for Hope staff and Haven partners as needed.
The Life Safety Officer also actively interacts with Haven clients while receiving services at Haven for Hope. This includes engaging with clients as they enter/exit, inquiring about on-campus/partner services on behalf of clients, and serving as a resource for client inquiries. Such activities may include monitoring client progress, providing information on available services, aiding clients in identifying the location of partner programs, and supporting clients' progress. Life Safety Officers are also in a unique position to identify and respond to a client experiencing a problem or crisis (for example: victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking) and ensure that they are safe and that other service providers are aware of the situation and able to respond with appropriate services.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES.
  • Day or Night watch operations: Performs foot and vehicle patrols throughout Haven's property
  • Monitors activities in and around buildings, parking lots, and open fields
  • Ensures guest and meeting rooms are locked and secured
  • Detects any safety hazards or issues, documents them, and reports them promptly
  • Reports and requests cleanup for bio-hazardous incidents, such as vomit or blood
  • Completes written documentation of all injuries, damaged property, theft, vandalism, etc.
  • Handles conflicts with members and other individuals on or around campus and responds to other alleged violations of Haven's campus policies
  • Identify and respond to any client who is experiencing a problem or crisis (including, but not limited to, domestic violence, stalking, sexual assault) to ensure they are safe and that other service providers are aware of the situation and able to respond with appropriate services
  • Enters data to include information in the internal incident system and accurately completes any necessary reports
  • Assist clients with inquiries on available Haven or partner services
  • Monitor clients' progress during their routine interactions
  • Provide information on Haven partner programs
Qualifications
EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATIONS.
  • High School Graduate or GED
  • Have a Level 3 Certification with the State of Texas or obtain within 30 days of hire
EXPERIENCE and REQUIREMENTS.
  • One-year related security experience within the State of Texas
  • Own a firearm with a Level III Holster
  • Valid Texas Driver's License, must be insurable, good driving record

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES.
  • Skill in building security and lock procedures
  • Skill in providing protection services
  • Ability to ensure the security, safety, and wellbeing of all personnel, staff, clients, and premises
  • Ability to detect, and report suspicious activity, criminal behavior, and security breaches
  • Ability to assist local law enforcement agencies with ongoing investigations and inquiries
  • Ability to gather, assemble, analyze, evaluate, and use facts and evidence
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with proper spelling, grammar, and punctuation
  • Ability to gather data, compile information, and prepare detailed and accurate reports using the internal incident report system
  • Ability to operate office equipment including a computer, printer, and scanner
  • Ability to understand and follow safety procedures and make logical decisions
  • Ability to detect problems and report information to appropriate personnel
  • Ability to operate equipment efficiently, such as a two-way radio or body-worn camera
  • Ability to successfully complete First Aid, CPR, and Bloodborne Pathogens training
  • Ability to successfully complete Crisis Intervention training
  • Ability to successfully complete Trauma-Informed Care training
  • Basic knowledge of Hazardous Materials
  • Ability to work flexible shifts, including weekends and holidays

Medium work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally (with help), up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move object. Physical activities include: balancing, stooping, reaching, standing, walking, lifting, grasping, talking, hearing and repetitive motion. The Life Safety Officer is required to have visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness, thoroughness of work assigned. Employee is subject to both inside and outside environmental conditions, exposed to hazards and infectious diseases.
Standard physical activity such as periodic standing, walking, sitting, basic motor skills to access computer files for information or simple data entry.
