JOB TITLE: Medical Assistant – Podiatry 

REPORTS TO: Nurse Manager

The following statements reflect the general duties, responsibilities and competencies considered necessary to perform the essential functions of the job and should not be considered as a detailed description of all the work requirements of this position. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assists with the preparation of patients prior to seeing practitioners
  • Acts as a translator for patients as appropriate
  • Distributes lab reports to practitioners for review
  • Maintains logs of required data as needed
  • Acts as the patient’s advocate and liaison for preservation of patient's rights
  • Participates in off-site screening projects as needed
  • Participates in departmental QA and other patient related committees as needed
  • Participates in outreach and community screenings as needed
  • Participates in case management and patient surveys in maintaining quality assurance
  • Participates in daily care team huddle to perform pre-visit planning to identify lab work or testing needed.
  • Prepares patients for examination and treatment, including taking histories and vital signs.
  • Conducts comprehensive, preventative screenings for patients and/or assists all support staff in daily patient interactions as needed.
  • Performs screening procedures as indicated.
  • Follows standing order procedures as indicated by practice.
  • Prepares exam and treatment rooms with necessary instruments; prepares and maintains supplies and equipment for treatments, including sterilization; performs terminal cleaning of exam rooms.
  • Makes impressions of patients’ feet for the purpose of creating casts and orthotic fittings.
  • Maintains patient files, records, and other information.
  • Performs various quality control procedures to maintain compliance with internal and external regulations. 
  • Maintains inventory of supplies and follows replenishment process for needed supplies.
  • Operates autoclave and other equipment required to clean and sanitize equipment or supplies
  • Schedule follow-up appointments for patient continuity.
  • Process Prior Authorization.
  • Review Medication Orders with Nurse and discard Expired Medications.
  • Review Inventory of Supplies and submit Orders.
  • Reviewing all Budget for Podiatry Supplies.
  • Traveling from Site to Site according to Provider Schedule.
  • Coverage of other clinical areas as needed.
  • Other related duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Medical Assistant Certification required
  • Basic CPR (BCLS) Certification
  • Two years experience working in the health care field
  • Capacity for covering Medical Assistants at all sites as needed
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish/Creole required.

SALARY: Commensurate with experience
