Title:Staff Accountant

Status:Non-Exempt

Reports to:Senior Vice President/ Chief Financial Officer

Supervises: N/A

Summary:

Assist the CFO and the Accounting/Finance Department with accounts payable, preparing journal entries, monthly closings, reconciliations, fixed assets, as well as assist with financial and regulatory reporting. Prepare reports for the Board of Directors, Senior Management, ALCO Committee, and Branch Administration.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for embracing and supporting Harford Bank’s Core Values and Vision.
  • Primary responsibility for managing the Bank’s accounts payable function (in conjunction with Senior Financial Analyst) to include (but not limited to) the following:
  • Receive invoices and route for internal approval.
  • Code invoices to the appropriate general ledger account.
  • Enter invoices in the accounts payable system and process checks for payment.
  • Maintain schedule of recurring invoices and ensure they are received and processed timely.
  • Create and maintain vendors in the accounts payable system.
  • Maintain accounts payable filing system.
  • Perform year-end 1099 processing and make applicable IRS filings.
  • Perform monthly expense analysis and investigate actual-to-budget variances.
  • Assist Senior Financial Analyst with maintaining the Bank’s investment portfolio to include (but not limited to) the following:
  • Prepare general ledger entries to record investment activity.
  • Ensure that all of the Bank’s principal and interest is received as scheduled on each investment.
  • Daily, ensure the Bank is in compliance with pledging requirements for municipal deposits, and provide periodic reports to municipalities.
  • Monthly, ensure the Bank’s investments are held by a duly approved safekeeping agent.
  • Monthly, reconcile all investment balance sheet accounts, using the bond accounting service provider’s reports.
  • Prepare the monthly investment activity report for the Board package.
  • Receive EMMA alerts regarding the Bank’s municipal security holdings and notify the CFO of the content of all alerts.
  • Assist Senior Financial Analyst with maintaining the Bank’s general ledger to include (but not limited to) the following:
  • Prepare general ledger entries.
  • Reconcile general ledger accounts.
  • Assist Senior Financial Analyst and CFO with financial and regulatory reporting to include (but not limited to) the following:
  • Prepare reports for the monthly Board package.
  • Prepare reports for the monthly ALCO package.
  • Prepare reports for quarterly and annual financial reporting.
  • Assist the Senior Financial Analyst with the preparation of the FDIC quarterly Call Report.
  • Assist Senior Financial Analyst in administering the Bank’s loan and deposit rate sheets to include (but not limited to) the following:
  • Monitor deposit rates for market fluctuations and report to CFO and CEO.
  • Administer weekly deposit, loan and CD rates and disclosures on the Bank’s internal portal and notify IT Department to update website.
  • Assist Senior Financial Analyst and CFO with the Bank’s corporate and branch budget process to include (but not limited to) the following:
  • Prepare analyses of account activity.
  • Assist Senior Financial Analyst with preparing the branch budget to ensure conformance with corporate budget.
  • Other duties to include (but not limited to) the following:
  • In conjunction with Senior Financial Analyst, perform fixed asset processing and serve as backup.
  • Assist Senior Financial Analyst with maintenance of the branch Profitstar software and in preparing branch reports.
  • Create and maintain procedures related to worked performed in the position.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications


  • College accounting and/or finance courses required. Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance preferred, but additional work experience may be substituted.
  • A minimum of 2 years in accounting or finance environment; financial institution experience preferred.
  • Computer proficiency with Microsoft Excel required, plus working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills including the ability to present ideas and logic in a clear and concise manner.
  • Ability to problem-solve through the investigation and resolution of issues.
  • High degree of accuracy in performing duties.
  • Team-oriented and collaborative orientation; ability to handle multiple projects.
  • Ability to perform all mathematical functions associated with this position such as interest rates, commissions, discounts, taxes, etc.

Responsible for understanding the Bank's BSA/AML Policy, including satisfactory completion of required annual BSA/AML training as applicable to position and appropriately applying this knowledge to daily activities and responsibilities, specifically understanding that any suspicious activity must be reported to the BSA Officer immediately.
