Position Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Sushi Chef to join our dynamic team. As a Sushi Chef, you will be responsible for preparing and presenting a wide variety of dishes to our clientele. This is a full-time position with a starting pay of $23/hr, along with a share of the tip-out (depending on experience). The position requires a commitment of roughly 40 hours per week.
Schedule: 5 days/ week.
Must be available to work Fri/Sat/Sun
Responsibilities:
Sushi Preparation: Prepare a diverse range of sushi and sashimi, maki, and specialty dishes according to traditional Japanese techniques and our specific restaurant's standards.
Food Presentation: Create visually appealing and aesthetically pleasing sushi presentations that showcase both creativity and precision.
Quality Control: Maintain high standards of food quality, taste, and consistency, ensuring that all dishes meet our restaurant's established standards.
Sanitation and Hygiene: Adhere to strict sanitation and hygiene practices, including proper handling and storage of food, to ensure a safe and clean working environment.
Inventory Management: Monitor ingredient inventory levels and communicate with the management team to ensure timely restocking and prevent shortages or wastage.
Team Collaboration: Work closely with other kitchen staff members to coordinate food preparation, ensure smooth service, and maintain a positive working environment.
Customer Interaction: Interact with customers at the sushi bar, take special requests, and provide recommendations, ensuring a memorable dining experience.
Qualifications:
Culinary Expertise: A minimum of 3 years of experience as a Sushi Chef in a reputable restaurant or culinary establishment, with a proven track record of delivering high-quality sushi, demonstrating a deep understanding of preparation techniques, ingredient pairing, and food presentation and familiarity with different types of sushi.
Food Safety and Hygiene: Current Oregon Food Handler permit, with a strong knowledge of food safety regulations and best practices, including HACCP principles, to ensure a safe working environment and high-quality food.
Time Management: Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively in a fast-paced kitchen environment.
The ability to stand for extended periods, as well as the ability to lift heavy objects, up to 50lbs.
Adaptability: Flexibility to work in a dynamic environment, adjusting to changing priorities and maintaining composure during peak periods.
Multitasking: Capacity to handle multiple orders simultaneously, ensuring timely preparation and delivery of sushi dishes.
