Overview

We are looking for a Corporate Accountant to join our accounting team in our corporate office located in Portland, Oregon. This individual will play an integral part in accounting for fixed assets of multiple entities and locations and maintaining the collection and indexing of tax exemption certificates. We are looking for someone who enjoys problem-solving, has critical thinking skills, is detail-oriented, data-driven and is a patient and persistent communicator. The position will collaborate with multiple accounting and tax team members and will report directly to the Director of Tax. There is a tax emphasis for this position, but you do not need tax experience for this position. We will provide relevant training and education. Responsibilities

  • Manage the collection and retention of tax exemption certificates using Avalara Software, including the tracking and validation of a large volume of certificates. With patience and persistence, correspond with customers regarding missing or expired certificates. Research and determine state-specific requirements. Provide appropriate certificates to vendors as requested by sales department.
  • Accounting of fixed assets across multiple operations and locations using Sage Fixed Asset Software (“FAS”). Using the capital acquisition and sale/disposal information provided from operational Financial Managers, determine asset classification, useful lives and depreciation methods for financial and tax purposes, input asset information into fixed asset software, and initiate disposal of assets. Generate reports from FAS, reconcile to general ledger and prepare prior year rollforward of information. Upload supporting documentation to file management software.
  • Prepare annual property tax returns for multiple locations. Ensure proper asset descriptions are reported. Identify costs that are considered non-value added. Track return and payment deadlines. Initiate payments when due.
  • Using sales reports generated from ERP system, prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual gross receipts and sales tax returns, make payments when due and assist in audits.
  • As part of the income tax compliance preparation, review and reconcile general ledger and transaction details to assist tax colleagues in determining tax treatment.
  • Accumulate financial data from various operations to support state apportionment and prepare state apportionment workpapers.

Qualifications

Education and experience:

  • College degree preferred
  • Must be proficient in MS Excel (sorting, pivot tables)
