Requirements:
Experience with Structural Inspection/Design Engineer in the Midwest
Perform structural inspection and reporting of in-service highway bridges, including routine bridge inspection and fracture critical bridge inspection.
Experience with structural load rating of in-service highway bridges in accordance with the AASHTO MBE.
Structural design activities will also be performed on transportation projects.
Perform structural and civil engineering analysis and design various types of multi-material structures by applying in-depth knowledge and theory of mechanics of materials, reinforced concrete, prestressed concrete and steel design.
Responsibilities will include producing quality designs and plans, and interpreting plans from other engineering related disciplines (survey, utility, etc.) or firms.
Qualifications:
B.S. in Civil or Structural Engineering is required.
EIT is required.
Completion of FHWA-NHI- Course 130055 – Safety Inspection of In-Service Bridges is required.
FHWA/NBIS qualified Routine Bridge Inspection Team Leader is preferred.
FHWA/NBIS qualified Fracture Critical Bridge Inspection Team Leader is preferred.
Rope climbing experience/training is preferred.
Entry level to 4 years of bridge inspection/design experience is preferred.
Knowledge of DOT design manuals bridge design and plan preparation.
Knowledge of MicroStation and typical structural design and analysis software.
Excellent interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to use resources efficiently and effectively, take initiative and be highly motivated, work with a diverse group of engineers and technicians, adhere to a schedule, and demonstrate a good work ethic.
