Responsibilities:

• Responsible for the design of schematic/environmental/PS&E projects for TxDOT and other municipal/county clients.

• Direct and/or perform engineering calculations from preliminary to final design.

• Develop and lead design of plans, specifications, reports, and cost estimates.

• Assist in proposal, scope of work, and fee schedule preparation.

• Clearly communicate work and ideas through drawings, documents, reports, and verbal exchange.

• Follow design standards to layout proposed improvements in MicroStation and coordinate design with design team members.

• Coordinate with project staff, other disciplines and sub-consultants, Departments, and reviewers to ensure accuracy and quality of work.

• Maintain project documentation.

• Schedule work for team members to deliver project tasks on time and on budget.

• Assist in the training, supervision, development, and evaluation of engineering support staff.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering or other related engineering BS.

• 5 years of design experience on transportation schematic and design projects. Experience in TxDOT design is a plus.

• Professional License in Texas or ability to obtain a TX PE within six months of hire.

• PE or PM experience working on TxDOT projects is highly desirable.

• Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written).

• Demonstrated interpersonal and customer service skills.

• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

• Ability to mentor engineers and technicians.

• Demonstrated experience using OpenRoads Designer a plus.

Work Environment

The work environment characteristics described are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Intermittent sitting, walking, standing, bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, twisting, stoop, crawl, and lifting. The employee must frequently lift and/or move light equipment up to 20 pounds. Must be alert to equipment in the field, occasional need to work near hazardous equipment and machinery, occasional need to walk on uneven ground, exposure to dust, gas or fumes, exposure to noise, extremes in temperature or humidity, and potential work at heights.
