This position is part of the Space Systems Development (SSD) business unit. SSD develops next-generation concepts and systems to advance our future of living and working in space sustainably.

As part of a growing, hardworking, and curious team of design engineers, you'll be responsible for leading a team of mechanism engineers to develop and deliver flight mechanism hardware for future spacecraft. Your skill in the design and analysis of spacecraft mechanisms as well as your ability to deliver safe, reliable, ready to qualify and fly hardware that meets requirements, while doing so within theallocatedcost and schedule requirements, will lead to a rewarding career with Blue Origin.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Lead the cross functional mechanisms team to achieve the mission goals and collaborate with other IPT teams. Accountable for planning, design, execution, and on-time/on-budget delivery of mechanisms.
  • Lead large and complex technical trade studies for future mechanisms to achieve mission goals.
  • Participate in the entire design cycle of flight hardware, including conceptual and detailed design, trade studies, structural analysis, development testing, and qualification.Generate component drawings, assembly drawings, and interface control documents with application of GD&T per ASME Y14.5.
  • Facilitate support from Blue Origin Support Functions: Operations, Integrated Supply Chain (ISC), Test and Flight Operations (TFO), Safety Quality and Mission Assurance (SQ&MA), and other support organizations.
  • Liaison between various internal/external business partners and process owners to facilitate seamless program execution. Develop component specifications and manage suppliers.
  • Support your IPT requirements decomposition and allocation, systems engineering, technical design, analysis and verification/validation, and management of internal/external interfaces and support program ground tests and flight operations.
  • Create documentation for assembly and testing of development and flight hardware.Participate in subsystem level testing including planning, execution, data reduction and analysis.
  • Lead program risk management processes, tracking and implementation of mitigation plans across all programmatic measures including cost, schedule, and technical performance.
  • Some travel (<10% may be required)

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution with a concentration in a relevant engineering field (mechanical, aerospace, robotics, etc.)
  • 8 years of experience in a multi-disciplinary team responsible for designing/developing complex mechanism products, ideally within aerospace
  • Mechanical design, integration, and mechanism analysis skills using 3D modeling and simulation tools (CREO preferred).
  • Proficient in technical writing, communicating sophisticated ideas clearly and concisely
  • Experience specifying and justifying margins and test sequences for aerospace systems
  • Experience with GD&T analysis (ASME Y14.5) and performing tolerance stacks
  • Knowledge of manufacturing, assembly, integration, and qualification testing
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion
  • Ability to work well, collaboratively in a fast paced, dynamic work environment
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Masters or PhD with a concentration in a relevant engineering discipline (materials, mechanical, aerospace, etc.)
  • 2 years of project management experience.
  • Experience with Design for Manufacturability
  • Experience running a team of technicians, designers, and engineers.
  • Experience in the design/procurement of ground support and/or test equipment for mechanisms.
  • Experience managing projects within budget and on schedule.
  • Experience working with manufacturing, design engineering, and other stakeholders to facilitate production of parts and integration of subassemblies, assemblies, subsystems, and systems.
  • Experience with human spaceflight or high-performance aircraft systems.

Compensation range for on site CO applicants is $125,480-$175,672
