Science Teacher

The Guadalupe Centers Charter Schools serves 1600 students ranging from PreK-12 and is a free, open-enrollment public charter school. Over 92% of our students are Latinx. Our school system consists of Guadalupe Centers High School, Guadalupe Centers Middle School, and Guadalupe Centers Elementary School. Our system grew out of Guadalupe Centers’ educational programming. Guadalupe Centers is the longest continuously operating agency serving the Latinx community in the US since 1919. Our roots in our community run deep.

Summary:

The science teacher serves as an instructional leader in the planning, coordination, and administration of instructional programming as well as, school activities and programs including progress monitoring, goal setting, student conduct, attendance, and extracurricular programs.

Reports To: Building Principal

Duties/ Responsibilities:

  • Develops, implements, and refines Science Curriculum in collaboration with peers and administration.
  • Communicates regularly, both affirming and adjusting feedback to families about their student’s learning and goals.
  • Models the school’s values in all interactions with students, families, community members, and staff.
  • Builds strong relationships and positive rapport with students, families, and colleagues.
  • Enforces and upholds the school community’s values, policies, and culture.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of grade-level standards, benchmarks, and curriculum as well as proficiency in lesson planning and unit design.
  • Designs balanced assessments use formative data daily and weekly to drive instructional practices and provide students with affirming and adjusting feedback on their progress.
  • Engages in structured and organic collaboration and communication with colleagues around lesson planning, instructional observations, and student data.
  • Actively participates in weekly staff development activities and meetings.
  • Attend all meetings with parents and give input concerning the creation of an Individual Education Plan or a 504 Plan
  • Ensure implementation of all modifications and accommodations for students with Special Needs (IEP/504)
  • Demonstrates a commitment to continuous improvement of professional practice, cultural competence, and ability to meet the specific instructional needs of culturally and linguistically diverse students.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with a proven ability to maintain professionalism and tact in high-stress situations. 
  • Committed to working with under-served students.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education.
  • Missouri State Certification in Elementary Education. 
  • Bilingual ability; English required and Spanish preferred.
  • Experience in an urban school setting is preferred. 
  • Two to four years of experience working in a classroom setting.
  • Highly Qualified Status (this status requires the following) …
    • Bachelor’s Degree.
    • Appropriate certification for the course/grade level being taught.
    • Documentation of content expertise in the area being taught. 

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of standing and walking throughout the school and classroom. 
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times.
  • Must be able to access and navigate all areas of the school and other facilities as needed.
