Groovy Donuts is Hiring a Baker (Overnight Shift) Near East Lansing, MI

Do you like “rolling in the dough”? If you have basic pastry experience and are looking to release your creativity with a collaborative team in a fun atmosphere, Groovy Donuts is looking for YOU! As a Groovy Donuts Overnight Baker / Donut Maker, you will work with our Lead Baker to prepare, design, and present the most amazing donuts ever—unique, joy-filled treats that warm both hearts and stomachs. We are seeking a trained, experienced pastry baker to join our team on our quest to make the world a better place, one donut at a time!

Position Type: Full Time

Salary Range: $14.28 - $16.32 Per Hour Tip Share Program

Supervisor: Bakery Shift Lead

Hours: Typical working hours range from 10:00pm – 8:00am; may vary based on product demand

Summary/Objective: This position assists the Lead Baker in preparing the kitchen for daily baking sessions, including pre- and post-session cleaning according to industry standards, ingredient prep, inventory, and ordering, utensils and machinery prep/maintenance, and assisting with recipe preparation, baking and decorating. Works with Lead Baker to review and prepare daily standard baked goods and special orders. Prepares orders for café case or deliveries using industrial kitchen equipment: weigh scales, grinders, thermometers, mixers, ovens, fryer, hood, etc. Works with other team members as needed to fulfill wholesale, café and special orders.

Key Results Area #1: Baking

● Prepare kitchen and equipment for bakery functions at the beginning of each shift to ensure efficient, sanitary and safe environment

● Coordinates with bakery shift lead to plan and prepare for the production of each day’s donuts to adequately supply locations, wholesale deliveries and special orders

● Mixes, forms and fries donuts according to company recipes, methodology and Groovy Donuts standards of quality

Key Results Area #2: Cross Training

● Complete training in at least 3 of the following stations: Frying Shift 1 (Cake Donuts), Frying Shift 2, Yeast Donuts, Fritters / Hand Cuts, Decorating, Expediting

● Display ability to rotate between these stations and maintain proficiency

Key Results Area #3: Meeting Production Goals

● Ensure production numbers are being met according to company goals

● Work with bakery team to ensure appropriate yields for each variety of donuts

● Ensure production schedule is being met for timely delivery of donuts to display case and wholesale clients

● Coordinate with Shift Lead to make periodic adjustments, where needed to ensure production goals (timing, amounts and quality control) are being met throughout shift

Key Results Area #4: Cleaning, Maintenance and Prep for Next Shift

● Performs daily maintenance, cleaning and sanitization of bakery equipment

● Coordinate with team and delegate prep tasks for next day (glazes, icings, fritters, etc)

● Review orders and prepare any custom flavors, colors or additional items, etc that will be needed

● Perform inspection of kitchen and storage areas to ensure cleanliness, sanitization and safety to company standards

Key Results Area #5: Communication with Bakery Team

● Maintain open communication with Bakery Team to ensure appropriate levels of production are being met, on schedule

● Coordinate with team to ensure proficient proofer management

● Maintain consistent usage of appropriate terminology to ensure team’s understanding of communication and team safety

Physical Demands: Standard food service kitchen; requires standing for long periods of time and moving about the kitchen stations as necessary to complete baking orders. Routinely uses or is in contact with large rotary mixers, grinders, hot ovens, and sharp utensils.

The team member must frequently lift or move objects up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift or move objects up to 50 pounds.

Required Education and Experience:

● High School Diploma or Equivalent

● 1 Year Bakery or Café Experience or related foodservice experience

● Basic math skills

● Understanding of baking principles

● Ability to use industrial kitchen equipment: scales, mixers, ovens, hoods, etc

Preferred Education and Experience:

● 3 Years Bakery / Café Experience

● Donut Frying / Baking Experience

● 1 year in leadership role

Work Authorization/Security Clearance: Must be able to obtain authorization to work in the United States.
