GreyStone Power Corporation is Hiring a Distribution System Operator Near Douglasville, GA

Monitors and operates the electric distributionsystem through the supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) system,processing trouble calls through the outage management system (OMS) to ensuresafe, efficient, and optimally reliable delivery of electric power to members.
  • Monitors SCADA system to ensure circuit loads are acceptable, making alternate line feed recommendations to Manager, System Control when necessary.
  • Constantly monitors and analyzes SCADA generated alarms, recommending solutions, developing action plans, and implementing appropriate actions.
  • Performs load analysis based on accurate, historical circuit load information relative to system equipment load capabilities.
  • Issues and releases hot line tags, maintaining a log of those actions.
  • Reacts to system outage information on the Scada and OMS (outage management system) systems, making timely decisions pertaining to isolation and back-feed options, taking safety, load issues, and commercial accounts into consideration.
  • Maintains and troubleshoots communication and operational problems with the SCADA master and associated devices, recommending and implementing system changes, upgrades, and repairs as needed.
  • Monitors and coordinates the sharing of inclement weather information with other departments for proactive, early preparation of power restoration.
  • Obtains required underground line locates through the Utility Protection Center (UPC) for crews in the field after normal hours and on weekends.
  • Obtain job numbers through SEDC for the changeout of broken poles for crews in the field after normal hours and on weekends.
  • Communicates routinely with GSP member service personnel to aid and advise in the resolution of member queries and power issues.
  • Analyze outage tickets to ensure outage duration, cause, and switching information is clearly detailed, making edits as necessary to ensure accuracy and aid in future reliability enhancement reviews.
  • Participates in teaching and training newly hired System Operators in all areas of specified System Operator duties.
  • Communicates frequently with line crews, service crews, and Apparatus personnel to write and execute switching orders on short notice, test line devices, verify device communication status, and a variety of other tasks.
  • Communicates with field supervisors, service crews, and Apparatus personnel to direct service restoration activities.
  • Writes (using Microsoft Word), approves, and executes switching orders according to switching protocols, considering system loading, key account factors, and operating limitations.
  • Communicates routinely with Oglethorpe Power, GTC (Georgia Transmission Corp.), and GSOC (Georgia System Operations Corp.) to exchange information and cooperate in system operations.
  • Communicates with Georgia Power and other electric utilities to exchange information and collaborate to work together for safe, timely resolutions.
  • Create, edit, and upkeep SCADA system diagrams to ensure efficient functionality of SCADA monitoring and control.
  • Monitors and controls gate access, discerning what vehicles have authorization for entry, based on established security protocols.
  • Trains frequently to develop and grow in knowledge and capability, to remain competent and confident in view of advancing power systems technological trends.
  • Works assigned shift work with the understanding that the shift schedule and/or assignments are subject to change.
  • Alters normal shift hours and/or provide additional control room assistance during occasions of heavy outages, even during scheduled off days.
  • Works an altered schedule in the event of a declared Emergency situation as defined by the ERP (Emergency Restoration Plan) or the Manager, System Control.
  • Performs other miscellaneous duties as assigned or required.
  • Requires high school graduate/equivalent.
  • Prefer an Associate Degree in Electrical Technology or equivalent experience or requires 4 years of progressive experience in Engineering, Construction, or Operations with an electric utility or requires 4 years’ experience with distribution system operation including familiarity with the operation and limitations of substation and line equipment controls and devices.
  • Requires ITS Certification.
  • Requires high degree of concentration and sound decision-making ability while working under pressure to direct service restoration in large or wide scale outages or disasters.
  • Requires knowledge of personal computers running common office software (esp. MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook, and MS PowerPoint) and the ability to use the hardware and software solutions associated with a SCADA system.
  • Requires good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Requires very good interpersonal and soft skills.
  • Must satisfactorily pass GreyStone’s employment physical examination and required drug screens.
General office environment. Requires considerable desk work, keyboard operation, telephone and radio use. Requires ability to lift and transport computer equipment when maintenance or swap out is required. Require bending, stooping and climbing step ladder when troubleshooting computer hardware and cabling. Occasionally conditions may include periods of intense activity during power restoration efforts requiring precise judgment and communications. Irregular hours, weekend and holiday shifts may be required. Benefits
