GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
In this challenging role, you will be supporting the ADR - Advising & Retention department at Greenville Technical College. Duties may include any or all of the following.
The Right Start Advisor (Student Services Program Coordinator II) provides holistic onboarding for new students with 18 credit hours or less using Appreciative Advising framework. The Right Start Advisor delivers orientation, advising, registration, and campus services to new students under minimal supervision. Guided by an Appreciative Advising philosophy and standards of excellence set by CAS and NACADA, the Right Start Advisor will work under the supervision of the Advising & Retention Director and with the Right Start Coordinator and fellow advisors to ensure that new students receive a thorough orientation to the college and advising support.
Job Functions
Orientation: Use Appreciate Advising framework for onboarding and advising. Enroll students in Colleague planning and advising process. Run process to clear advising and registration flags and auto-assign advisor. Check for required advising information (high school transcript, GED, placement scores, ACT/SAT scores, AP scores, PLA, and/or previous college transcripts). Review placement scores with student. Refer students for retesting if needed. Check program status and dates. Share Student Success Guide with student. Refer students to GTC resources.
Advising: Provides daily advising support for new students (<18 credit hours). Interprets test scores and education records. Evaluate for multi-measures. Discusses program completion, course scheduling, acceleration opportunities, and success strategies for students, based on major. Using case management approach, enters plans into Student Planning for use by the student and other advisors and support staff. Enroll student in COL 105, Freshman Seminar course based on major. Advocates on behalf of students. Promotes and support retention-focused practices on a daily basis.
Technology: Responsible for collecting, distributing, and/or maintaining accurate advising data. Uses Microsoft Office, Colleague, Civitas, the GTC Dashboard, Student Self Service (including Student Planning, Student Finance, and Financial Aid), Blackboard Collaborate / Zoom and other data sources to access reports for individual students, courses, programs, or schools.
Professional Development & Training: Maintains current knowledge of Appreciative Advising, Student Planning, placement score interpretation, multiple measures, Civitas tools, Student Self-Service tools, college policies, and the GTC advising model. Maintain liaison with Schools for advising related information. Participates and facilitates training as needed. Maintains professional development through Advising Training & Resources (ART), conferences, webinars, and literature. Stays abreast of advising standards from national organizations. Researches best practices in place at other institutions.
Campus Connection: Facilitates and participates in proactive advising functions for Right Start Center and college-wide such as open house events. Participates on campus committees.
Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree and experience in student services programs.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Master’s degree; or bachelor’s degree 2 years’ experience in student services programs. Prefer minimum of three years related experience in student services programs. Knowledge of college policies, procedures, academic programs and courses. Understanding of student privacy laws and processes (FERPA). Knowledge of basic principles and theories of student development. Ability to provide excellent customer service. Prefer excellent oral and written communication. Prefer a strong working knowledge of computer software and systems.
