IV. POSITION SUMMARY: The Staff Dentist is primarily responsible for providing dental care for the patients of Greenville Rancheria Tribal Health Program. In addition, the Staff Dentist may be directed to perform other duties as directed by the Dental Director within the requirements of contractual agreements and in accordance with licensing, State and Federal funding agencies and other regulatory requirements, and in accordance with the policies and procedures established by the Greenville Rancheria Tribal Health Program Tribal Council.

V. POSITION OUTLINE:

1. Physical requirements: An eligible candidate must possess the ability:

a. Sit for extended periods of time.

b. Be able to sustain prolonged standing, bending, stooping and light lifting without pain. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

c. Use full range of sense of hearing, speech, and vision.

d. Display manual dexterity as applicable to position.

e. Pass all employment physical/medical examinations.

2. General Duties and Responsibilities:

a. Maintain a positive, pro-active, and professional demeanor with fellow employees.

b. Work under pressure in a fast-paced clinic environment.

c. Make sound decisions and take responsibility.

d. Maintain good attendance and be punctual.

e. Be task oriented in all work activities, while meeting deadlines.

f. Read and adhere to policies and procedures.

g. Agree to and sign a conflict-of-interest form and agree to not disclose any trade secrets, directly or indirectly, or use them in any way, either during the term of employment or at any time thereafter, except as required in the course of employment with Greenville Rancheria.

h. Always maintain a high-level of employee, patient/family confidentiality.

i. Computer skills, such as NextGen, i2i, Excel, PowerPoint, Microsoft Teams, Zoom, Outlook, etc.

j. Must be able to use office equipment including fax, multi-line telephone and copy machine.

3. General qualifications: An eligible candidate must possess (and/or maintain) the following:

a. Graduate of an accredited dental school.

b. Minimum two-year experience of general dentistry

c. Current California dental license

d. Requires current certification in CPR.

e. If required to drive a Greenville Rancheria vehicle, must possess a valid California driver's license and a DMV printout verifying a good driving record. Refer to the transportation / vehicle policy and procedure manual authorization of personnel.

f. Ability to effectively communicate in English, both written and verbal.

g. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret dental terminology and procedures.

h. Reliable employment history.

i. Ability to pass a Pre-Employment drug screen and criminal background check/ fingerprinting in accordance with all applicable laws regarding the nature of the employment.

j. Maintain a "Professional Image" in one's appearance and hygiene.

k. Requires discretion, confidentiality, resourcefulness, and good judgment functions of a sensitive nature.

l. Must be efficient, flexible, player, well organized.

VI. DIRECT RESPONSIBILITIES: The following position responsibilities are rated as part of the employee’s competency-based performance appraisal. Within the parameters established by the Tribal Council, approved Greenville Rancheria Personnel Policies and Procedures.

1. Job Duties:

a. Assure quality of care for all patients of GREENVILLE RANCHERIA.

b. Adhere to the highest standard of dental practices, ethics, and professionalism at all times.

c. Assist the Dental Director in establishing dental policies, quality improvement procedures, evaluating current practices, and making recommendations.

d. Recommend changes in all clinical areas or in general to improve patient flow, dental record, dental billings, and appointment practices.

e. Supervise, direct, train, and educate dental ancillary staff to perform their duties when necessary to understand policies, procedures, and protocols.

f. Maintain an affiliation with the professional groups, dental associations, and dental organizations, as per policies and procedures established by Indian Health Service. Represent GREENVILLE RANCHERIA at all meetings of these associations and organizations whenever possible or as directed by the Dental Director.

g. Participation in community health events, such as school screenings, health fairs, social and community events.

h. Must become familiar with Federal, State, and local funding agencies' rules and regulations in providing special dental services to certain classes of recipients of services.

i. Become familiar with Federal and State dental programs and their requirements.

j. Assist in developing the dental care plan for the Indian Health Services and recommend changes, as necessary.

k. Promotes and believes in IHS mission statement.

l. Ability to relate to the public regardless of ethnic, religious, and economic status.

2. Clinical Duties:

a. The staff dentist is responsible for diagnosis and treatment of diseases, injuries, and malformations of the oral cavity and surrounding hard and soft tissues.

b. Oral manifestations of systemic diseases will be treated in conjunction with appropriate consultation/referral to patient's physician. Hypertension and diabetes, common among Indians, will be routinely screened and referred if uncontrolled.

c. Provides routine dental care to all eligible patients as outlined in the "Levels of Care".

d. Provides timely emergency treatment for all eligible patients according to dental emergency treatment protocol.

e. Accurate and complete records are kept in the patient's chart of all treatment rendered and treatment planned.

f. Attends continuing dental education in order to keep up all licenses and to keep current on new techniques and philosophies related to all aspects of dentistry.

g. Maintains a current CPR card, California State Dental License, and DEA License.

3. Customer Service Duties:

a. Professionally and in a customer-focused manner, disseminate program and Tribal information as appropriate and as instructed by the Dental Director

b. Is able to understand, be sensitive to, communicate with, and have-knowledge/awareness of the culture of the Indian community to be served.

c. Provide input, initiate, and embrace changes that will continually improve the operation of the Greenville Rancheria and assist the dental director and Tribal membership in growth, efficiency, and prosperity.

d. Maintain a high level of Tribal, patient, and employee confidentiality.

e. Other duties as assigned.
