GREENVILLE RANCHERIA is Hiring a Registered Dental Assistant (RDA) Near Red Bluff, CA

IV. POSITION SUMMARY: The Registered Dental Assistant performs the full range of RDA functions allowed 3by California law under the supervision of a California licensed dentist. The RDA is skilled in all phases of dental assisting from surgery, prosthodontics, and endodontics to pedodontics and orthodontics. Able to communicate well with patients, establish good rapport, make patients comfortable in the dental setting and assist in dental education.

You will take primary responsibility for ordering dental supplies and equipment. You will take responsibility for staying current with changes in CALOSHA, CDC guidelines and I.H.S. Infection Control Guidelines and ensuring that the dental department meets or exceeds guidelines.

V. POSITION OUTLINE:

1. Physical requirements: An eligible candidate must possess the ability:

a. Sit for extended periods of time.

b. Be able to sustain prolonged standing, bending, stooping and light lifting without pain. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

c. Use full range of sense of hearing, speech, and vision.

d. Display manual dexterity as applicable to position.

e. Pass all employment physical/medical examinations.

2. General Duties and Responsibilities:

a. Maintain a positive, pro-active, and professional demeanor with fellow employees.

b. Assist and interact with the public in a professional manner.

c. Display a high level of attention in detail.

d. Must exercise good judgment in analyzing and solving problems.

e. Work under pressure in a fast-paced environment

f. Must be able to function in a rural clinic environment.

g. Make sound decisions and take responsibility.

h. Maintain good attendance and be punctual.

i. Human relation skills to deal effectively with patients, clients, and visitors in person or on the telephone.

j. Ability to assume responsibility in all work activities and prioritize workload while meeting deadlines.

k. Read, interpret, and adhere to personnel policy and procedures.

l. Collection of monies due from patients.

m. Familiarization with computer systems such as the Internet, Microsoft Outlook, Medi-Cal and NextGen.

n. Must be able to use office equipment, including fax, multi-line telephone, scanner and copy machine.

o. Agree to not disclose any trade secrets, directly or indirectly, or use them in any way either during the term of employment or at any time thereafter, except as required in the course of employment with the company.

p. Always maintain a high-level of patient confidentiality.

q. Other duties as assigned.

3. General Qualifications:

An eligible candidate must possess (and/or maintain) the following:

a. Must be over the age of 18 years.

b. Graduate of an accredited dental assisting program (preferred)

c. Minimum two - year experience.

d. Current California RDA license.

e. Requires current certification in CPR.

f. Ability to effectively communicate in English, both written and verbal.

g. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret dental terminology and procedures.

h. Reliable employment history.

i. Ability to pass a Pre-Employment drug screen and criminal background check/ fingerprinting in accordance with all applicable laws regarding the nature of the employment.

j. Maintain a "Professional Image" in one's appearance and hygiene.

k. Requires discretion, confidentiality, resourcefulness, and good judgment in handling functions of a sensitive nature.

l. Must be efficient, flexible, professional, team player, well organized.

m. Ability to have a good relationship with co-workers in a close environment.

VI. DIRECT RESPONSIBILITIES: The following position responsibilities are rated as part of the employee’s competency-based performance appraisal. Within the parameters established by the Tribal Council, approved Greenville Rancheria Personnel Policies and Procedures.

1. General Assisting Duties (All Assistants):

a. Participation in community health events, such as school screenings, health fairs, social and community events.

b. Must become familiar with Federal, State, and local funding agencies' rules and regulations in providing special dental services to certain classes of recipients of services.

c. Become familiar with Federal and State dental programs and their requirements.

d. Assist in the dental care plan for the Indian Health Services.

e. Promotes and believes in IHS mission statement.

f. Ability to relate to the public regardless of ethnic, religious, and economic status.

g. Responsible for ordering supplies and maintaining inventory.

h. Will be responsible for being current with: DC and CALOSHA requirements and ensuring the dental department meets current standards.

i. Greets and seats patients, informs dentist that patients are present.

j. Assists the dentist during procedures, keeping the operating area clear, supplying instruments, materials, and medications to the dentist.

k. Assists the dentist with patient management by contributing to the patient's comfort and reassurance.

l. Assists with patient education in such areas as postoperative and post-surgical care, oral hygiene instructions and preventive dental care.

m. Takes and processes dental x-rays as requested by dentist.

n. Cleans operatory after each patient leaves. (Patient chair, light carts, handpieces).

o. Sterilizes all dental instruments, cleans, and resets trays.

p. See that all patients' charts are in order before returning them to the front desk. Doctor's notes entered, health history checked x-rays in pocket, Fee Ticket completed.

2. General Daily Duties:

a. Check calendar in front office for daily work assignments.

b. Check dentist's daily schedule posted ensures that all materials and lab work are present.

c. Assist with overall office daily procedures.

d. Responsible for turning on all equipment in assigned operatory.

e. Keep amalgam trap and vacuum system clean in assigned operatory.

f. At day's end, be sure all equipment in the assigned operatory is turned off and that all handpieces are professionally cleaned and oiled.

g. If time allows, assist the receptionist with filing charts, answering phones, etc.

h. If any supply used during the day appears to be running short, place re-order tag in re-order envelope. In Red Bluff, write it down on the supply list.

i. Keep the lab and work area as clean as possible.

j. Do necessary lab work for coming days - (i.e., pour impressions, trim stone models, make impression trays)

k. Telephone dental labs and be sure all lab slips are completed, copies made for chart and work is picked up before day's end.

3. Basic Weekly Duties:

a. Check the calendar in the front office for a week’s assigned duties.

b. At week’s end, run cleaning solution through all suction equipment.

c. Clean lab completely including model trimmer, lathe, and vibrator.

d. Clean and drain automatic x-ray developer and quick hand developer (if applies)

e. Drain and check compressor.

f. Sharpen dental hand instruments.

g. Run weekly spore test for Chemin-clave/autoclave.

h. Check inventory supplies for restocking.

i. Clean main evacuator trap in large equipment room (GV); outside (RB).

4. Basic Monthly Duties:

a. Turn in all certificates and information on continuing education courses attended.

b. Actively attend all department meetings, in service training sessions, and general staff meetings.

c. Check and replenish oil level on compressor.

5. Clinical Duties under General Supervision of the DDS:

a. Operate dental radiography equipment for the purpose of dental radiography. (Must comply with Section 1656)

b. Perform intra-oral and extra-oral photography.

6. Clinical Duties Under Direct Supervision of the DDS:

a. Remove excess cement with an ultrasonic scaler from supragingival surfaces. (Must be certified)

7. Clinical Duties Under Direct of General Supervision, as per DDS:

a. Adjust dentures extra-orally.

b. After adjustment by DDS, seat removable orthodontic appliances.

c. Apply pit and fissure sealants (must be certified).

d. Apply and activate bleaching agents using a non-laser light curing device.

e. Apply non-aerosol and non-caustic topical agents.

f. Apply topical fluoride. (May operate under general supervision in a school-based setting, or government run public health program.)

g. Assist in the administration of nitrous oxide. May not start or adjust the flow, except in the case of a medical emergency.

h. Chemically prepare tooth for bonding.

i. Cure restorative or orthodontic material.

j. Dry endodontically treated canals with paper points.

k. Examine orthodontic appliances.

l. Fabricate, adjust, cement, and remove indirect provisional restorations, including stainless steel crowns when used as a temporary restoration.

m. Mouth mirror inspection of the oral cavity to include charting obvious lesions, existing restorations, and missing teeth.

n. Obtain intraoral images for computer aided design (CAD) milled restorations.

o. Perform measurements for the purpose of orthodontic treatment.

p. Place and remove orthodontic separators.

q. Place and remove rubber dams or other isolation devices.

r. Place bases, Liners, and bonding agents.

s. Place ligature ties and arch wires.

t. Place patient monitoring sensors.

u. Place periodontal dressings.

v. Place post-extraction dressings after inspection of the surgical site by the dentist.

w. Place, adjust and finish provisional restorations.

x. Place, wedge, and remove matrices for restorative procedures.

y. Polish coronal surfaces of teeth.

z. Pulp vitality tests and record findings.

aa. Remove ligature ties and arch wires.

bb. Remove excess cement from surfaces of teeth with a hand instrument.

cc. Remove orthodontic bands.

dd. Remove periodontal dressings.

ee. Remove post-extraction dressings after inspection of the surgical site by the dentist.

ff. Remove sutures after inspection of the site by the dentist.

gg. Take facebow transfers and bite registrations.

hh. Take intraoral impressions for all nonprosthodontic appliances.

ii. Use of automated caries detection devices and materials to gather information for diagnosis by the dentist.

jj. Accurate and complete records are kept in the patient's chart of all treatment rendered and treatment planned.

kk. Attends continuing dental education in order to keep up all licenses and to keep current on new techniques and philosophies related to all aspects of dentistry.

ll. Maintains a current CPR card & California State Dental License

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $19.54 - $23.53 per hour

Expected hours: 40 – 48 per week
