Regional Construction Project Engineer

Reports to: Project Manager

FSLA Status: Salary – Exempt

Last Revised Date: 3/31/23

Position Description: The Project Engineer is an exempt production management, supervisory job classification. They are responsible in assisting with all facets of project management both before and during construction. They may be asked to perform other work as required.

The Project manager is a member of the Green Team and as such understands and upholds:

  • All safety standards pertaining to job responsibilities in accordance with Greenscape policies; and
  • All company policies and procedures as outlined in the employee handbook and/or other company documents.

  • Monitors industry for upcoming improvements in technology, equipment, etc. as to benefit company operations.

Job Specific Responsibilities and Requirements

  • Maintain familiarity with job specifications and ensure compliance using horticulturally appropriate and branch approved practices
  • Supports project managers and estimators
  • Analyzes drawings, plans, specifications, contracts, and other documents
  • Communicates with vendors, owns, general contractors and sub contractors
  • Handles procurement of materials and subcontractors including writing purchase orders
  • Source new vendors for consideration
  • Negotiates final pricing with vendors to ensure the best pricing
  • Bids out material and subcontractor lists for quoting from vendors
  • Tracks plan revisions, RFI’s and RFQ’s during estimating and production process
  • Completes and submits RFI and RFQ answers as needed
  • Handles the submittal process for their assigned projects: collection information, document, submit and revise until final approval is given.
  • Sets up and maintains job tracker folders and ensures they are complete at all times
  • Ensures 811, private locate, and Job Hazard Assessment forms are filled out and called in
  • Communicates with field team for scheduling, job costing, and material ordering
  • Assists with the preparation and tracks all RFI’s, submittals, bulletins, and change orders
  • Attends site meetings and walkthroughs with clients, architects and subcontractors as requested by project manager
  • Ensures projects are closed out completely: collecting information from field employees, developing closeout submittals, coordinating with maintenance department if there is a handoff and furnishing correct as-builts
  • Assists in billing and collection process to support branch manager
  • Daily communication with Estimating team
  • Ensure that data is entered and managed within Aspire
  • Other tasks or projects as assigned

Qualifications

  • Knowledge and experience in commercial sitework construction or landscape construction preferred
  • 3 years experience
  • Strong computer skills – proficient knowledge of Microsoft office suite and ability to learn all software we require, such as Aspire, Site Recon, etc…
  • Ability to work in a very fast paced environment
  • Must be detail oriented, organized, and customer service focused.
  • Ability to handle unexpected projects and a demonstrated willingness to help others

Working Conditions and Physical Demands

  • Overtime hours may be required to fulfill job responsibilities when required for deadlines
  • May be required to be physically capable of various tasks related to a construction environment including but not limited to walking on uneven surfaces, working outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Ability to work and support company during snow removal services in winter in either shoveling, support or plowing in a plow truck
  • May be required to stoop, bend, stand or sit for extended periods of time
  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, and other devices on a daily basis

Special Notes Licenses and Certifications

  • Driver’s License:
  • A class “C” driver’s license is required during appointment to this job classification. The driver’s license must be maintained in good standing as per company insurance standards
