Description

SUMMARY

We are seeking a passionate and experienced educator for Upper School and Middle School Director to join our Fine Arts Department and play a pivotal role in nurturing the musical talents of our students by fostering a love for choral music. The ideal candidate will bring a mix of creativity, innovation, and tradition to the role, inspiring and enabling students to achieve their full potential in the musical arts. The Choir Director leads the School's choral program, prepares students for performances and competitions, assists with the Upper and Middle School musical productions, and teaches music. 

This is a full-time, 10-month, exempt position. Some evening and weekend work is required

RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive choral curriculum for Middle and Upper School students, including Middle School choirs (5th, 6th, 7th & 8th Mixed ensemble), Upper School choir (Greenhill Singers), and other possible Fine Arts electives, depending on the applicant's skills.
  • Foster musicianship and a love for singing while promoting physical, emotional, and intellectual development.
  • Plan and lead engaging choral classes that cater to students' diverse skill levels and interests. 
  • Expertise in choral conducting, vocal pedagogy, and music theory, alongside the ability to develop a comprehensive repertoire spanning genres and periods, complemented by a familiarity with global music that embodies a diverse perspective
  • Produce a number of choir concerts throughout the year (as well as school ceremonies such as baccalaureate and commencement) with students performing a diverse repertoire, representing different musical periods, styles, and cultures. 
  • Music direct the annual Upper and Middle school musicals. 
  • Collaborate with colleagues in Fine Arts and other disciplines to integrate singing into interdisciplinary projects and performances.
  • Stay informed about current trends and best practices in choral education, attending professional development workshops and conferences as needed. 
  • Work closely with the performing arts faculty team to create a cohesive and supportive environment for our students.
  • Contribute to the School's arts community by participating in events and performances celebrating the arts at Greenhill.
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in music or music education or related field; master's degree preferred.
  • Strong foundation in Kodaly or Orff methodologies.
  • A minimum of 3-5 years of teaching experience in a middle school/upper school setting.
  • Excellent keyboard proficiency.
  • Skills in multilingual diction and effective rehearsal techniques aimed at inspiring and enhancing our choirs’ performances. 
  • Ability to teach students with diverse learning styles and abilities, demonstrating inclusivity.
  • A team player mentality with strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse populations and perspectives.
