Gravitas, a Michelin Star Fine Dining New American restaurant in Ivy City, is seeking a Sommelier. The ideal candidate will have 2-3 years of experience in running a fine dining wine list and selling on the floor.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Service and Employee Management

• Provide warm and knowledgeable service to all Gravitas guests
• Liaise with restaurant and outlet operations staff to ensure a seamless guest experience
• Assist in creating a culture encourages our staff to grow
• Support beverage and service teams
• Ensure consistent, thorough, and timely communication to peers, managers, guests, and vendors
• Continually strive to provide opportunities to advance the education and development of staff as it relates to food, wine, and service
• Assist in researching and conducting comprehensive beverage training for FOH staff, working in conjunction with Management

Wine and Beverage Oversight

• Ensure that safety, security, and loss control policies and procedures are complied.
• Maintain thorough knowledge of all wine, saké, beer, spirits, specialty cocktails, teas and sodas, and all non-alcoholic beverages.
• Take meticulous monthly inventory
• Oversee maintenance / cleanliness of all decanters, wine stations, and all storage areas pertaining to beverage
• Planning and maintaining storage of wine

General / Miscellaneous

• Understand and comply with all federal, state, county, and municipal regulations / ordinances that pertain to health, safety, and labor requirements of the farm / restaurant / inn, its employees, and its guests.
• All other duties as assigned by General Manager and Owner / Executive Chef

KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS

• Have a minimum of 2 years experience in a similar position
• Have the ability to handle multiple tasks at one time
• Have excellent communication and organization skills
• Willing to work a flexible schedule and holidays
• Relevant experience in fine dining hospitality / restaurant operations
• Ability to work collaboratively across the organization
• Extensive knowledge pertaining to all aspects of winegrowing, wine production, wine styles, and regional wine laws pertaining to classic regions from around the worldThe ability to work in a standing position for long periods of time.
• The ability to stand, walk, stoop, bend, reach with hands and arms, and frequently lift up to 35 pounds and occasionally lift / move 50 pounds.
