Job Description

Purpose

The Event Sales Manager reports to the Director of Event Sales and Catering and is responsible for meeting sales targets and prospecting new business in assigned market areas, while working under pressure to meet deadlines and exceed goals.

Responsibilities & Accountability

Planning

• Plans events with clients, including menus, timelines and floor plans.
• Consults with third party vendors, as needed.
• Presents appropriate event options.
• Consistently reviews future availability with attention on high and low demand dates, minimizing risk of overbooking or shortfall, and focusing on shoulder and off-season business.

Implementation

• Handles and converts inquiries.
• Obtains bookings through proper negotiation of space, dates and rates.
• Encourages repeat business through excellent customer service.
• Attends off campus events to promote business.
• Provides an advance introduction between client and event operations representative who act as on-site contact for event.
• Perform other duties and tasks, as needed.

Administrative

• Ensures all records are entered accurately into appropriate software.

Position Requirements

• Three to five (3-5) years of experience in hotel, banquet or event sales.
• Bachelor’s degree in hospitality, sales, marketing or other related field, preferred.
• Proven track record in direct sales and an ability to develop targeted prospect databases.
• Ability to work independently and in a team setting.
• Flexibility; able to work varying shifts including evenings, weekends and holidays, as required.
• Ability to build strong relationships with clients to understand their needs.
• Commitment to customer satisfaction with a guest-focused attitude.
• Organization and attention to detail.
• Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
• Professional appearance.
• Proficiency in the use of computers for word processing, data entry, email and other basic administrative functions, with the ability to learn to use any software which may be used at the facility
