The GISU believes that for all students to be curious, creative, courageous and capable of pursuing their aspirations in a diverse and ever-changing world, we need to ensure we invest in our educators so they can be too. An integral part of a robust educator support system is access to high quality instructional coaches who help educators innovate, problem solve, take risks, and continue to build their toolbox of effective practice. The Instructional Coaches, having both content and instructional expertise, will work as a colleague with classroom teachers to support student learning and teacher practice. The Instructional Coaches will focus on individual and group professional learning that will expand and refine the understanding about evidence-based, effective instruction for teachers. The instructional coaches will report directly to the Curriculum Director and work in collaboration with building principals to implement academic and social-emotional priorities.Essential Functions:1) Support the philosophy and vision of Grand Isle Supervisory Union2) Facilitate coaching cycles with grade band teams and individual teachers3) Create positive relationships with teachers and administrators4) Communicate and demonstrate researched-based instructional practices that result in increased student performance5) Provide data-based feedback to teachers6) Lead and support implementation of core programs and resources7) Inform GISU’s professional development plan and programmingGeneral Responsibilities:1) Provide organized, individual and/or group learning opportunities for teachers as needed.2) Provide support in analyzing student assessment data.3) Assist teachers with instructional decisions based on assessment data when requested.4) Provide support and modeling for teachers to increase student engagement, classroom motivation and management strategies.5) Assist teachers in creating materials that are in alignment with curriculum and state standards.6) Provide teachers resources related to instruction and curriculum.7) Provide assistance in researching instructional and/or curriculum issues.8) Model effective, differentiated instruction when requested.9) Provide encouragement and emotional support to teachers.10) Encourage ongoing professional growth for all teachers.11) Manage time and schedule flexibility to maximize teacher schedules and learning.12) Work positively toward meeting identified district and building improvement goals.13) Assist with development of district curriculum, instruction and assessments.14) Develop and maintain a confidential, collegial relationship with teachers.15) Possess an understanding of when to contact administrators regarding issues of safety/ethics. 16) Perform duties as assigned by the Principal and the Director of Curriculum and Instruction. 17) Participate fully in professional development for coaches, including peer observations, professional research and reading, and outside learning opportunities.18) Assist teachers in aligning their teaching with appropriate standards, curriculum and assessments19) Work collaboratively and collegially with other Instructional Coaches, content area specialists, special educators, principals and Curriculum Director.20) Promote the use of thoughtfully integrated technology to improve the academic achievement and digital literacy of all students.Requirements:1) Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university2) Minimum of five years of successful teaching experience3) Current Vermont Teaching License or ability to become licensed4) Demonstrated knowledge of Common Core Standards, C3 standards and NGSS5) Experience in researched-based instructional practices and technology integration6) Previous coaching or teacher leadership experience7) Deep knowledge of and experience in:a) Academic and Social-emotional Instructional strategies (Differentiation, Universal Design for Learning)b) Data informed decision makingc) Lesson Study8) Effective communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills for building an environment with a common instructional focus, promoting initiatives, and conveying expectations9) Ability to design and deliver quality professional learning10) Outstanding facilitation skills11) Demonstrated ability to communicate in a professional manner both orally and in writing12) Demonstrated strength in organization, communication skills and efficiency in meeting deadlines13) Demonstrated ability to function as a positive collaborative member of a team14) Demonstrated interest and engagement in professional learning and reflectionPreferred degree: Bachelor's and preferred experience 5 years
