Full-Time Staff Position Opening - Learning Specialist

Gonzaga College High School is seeking a full-time Learning Specialist beginning in the 2024-2025 academic year. This is a 10-month position (August 15- June 14), renewable annually. The Learning Specialist reports directly to the Director of the Center of Academic Excellence, and collaborates closely with guidance and college counselors. The Learning Specialist provides and coordinates academic support services for Gonzaga College High School students with diagnosed learning differences.

Gonzaga College High School is committed to leadership in multicultural education and a culturally diverse faculty and staff. The school therefore seeks applications from candidates who will contribute to an atmosphere in which all are valued and supported.

The ideal candidate will be well organized, and possess strong written and oral communication skills. They should demonstrate a strong commitment to the principles of Jesuit and Catholic education and have familiarity with schools in an urban setting. The successful candidate must demonstrate the ability to work with a diverse group of people. A bachelor's degree is required; a master's is preferred. At least one year of related experience at the level of secondary education is also preferred.

Job duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Develop individualized accommodation plans in accordance with official school accommodation policiesfor eligible SSD students based on parent/student interviews and review of testing results
  • Serve as the schools point of contact with private evaluators regarding psychoeducational assessment asneeded (and public school offices where appropriate - e.g., referral going through local public school)
  • Serve as SSD Coordinator for Students with Disabilities (SSD approved) for College Board and ACTTesting Programs
  • Collect data regarding use of accommodations by students (may be used for applications or appeals forCollege Board/ACT)

Gonzaga is a Catholic, Jesuit, college preparatory school founded in 1821, for young men in grades nine through twelve located in Washington, DC. Gonzaga offers a challenging college preparatory curriculum that provides a broad range of major course offerings including honors and advanced placement courses, complemented by a selection of electives and co-curricular activities. Retreats and Christian service, in the Jesuit tradition, are the hallmark of a Gonzaga education. There are seventeen interscholastic sports teams at Gonzaga, as well as musical and dramatic performing arts ensembles, and many clubs and student organizations.
