Lowell School is Hiring a Primary School Learning Specialist Near Washington, DC

Lowell School, a progressive school of approximately 330 students in NW Washington, DC, seeks a Primary School Learning Specialist. The Learning Specialist will provide classroom and instructional support to meet the needs of students, is a key member of the Student Support Team, and reports to the Primary School Director.
Desired Qualifications
  • MA in special education or a related field
  • Experience implementing a systematic, multi-sensory-based approach to phonics-based ELA and math instruction
  • Familiarity with the administration and interpretation of non-diagnostic academic and cognitive assessment and screening tools
  • An understanding of neurodiversity and the ability to interpret neuropsychological evaluations
  • Skill in implementing evidence-based strategies that support students with learning differences, attentional challenges, and/or executive functioning
  • Knowledge of learning disabilities and developmental exceptionalities
  • The ability to build positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues
  • A commitment to supporting the mission of the school
Responsibilities
  • Monitors student progress; communicates needs, services, and accommodations to all constituencies
  • Provides direct student support through small group and one-to-one instruction
  • Collaborates with the Director of Primary School and members of the Student Support Team to support student growth
  • Writes and implements Student Learning Plans
  • Collaborates with teachers to ensure implementation of Student Learning Plans
  • Leads professional development for faculty members to enhance their knowledge regarding learning differences, behavioral needs, and best teaching practices
  • Supports the organization of tutor schedules and communication related to Student Learning Profiles
  • Collaborates with the Admissions Office regarding the analysis of prospective student learning profiles and screenings of prospective students
