Golden State Health Centers is Hiring an Assistant Director of Staff Development (TEMPORARY) Near Arcadia, CA

Title: Assistant DSD (TEMPORARY)

Classification: Non-exempt

Reports to: Director of Staff Development

Summary:

The ADSD works under the supervision of the Director of Staff Development to ensure that nursing personnel (RN, LVN, CNA's)are adequately staffed to ensure there is twenty-four hour care to meet the needs of the residents and the State while staying within the facility’s budget. The staffing assistant works to find coverage when there are call off's or gaps in the schedule by reaching out to staff to do overtime or working with several nursing registries the Company has to find coverage. This position works with a team to staff the facility. The Assistant Director of Staff Development is responsible for assisting the Director of Staff Development with the day-to-day maintenance of the Staff Development Department.

Responsibilities:

·Assists the Director of Staff Development with the preparation and the implementation of portions of new hire orientation.

·Assists the Director of Staff Development with the organizing, auditing, and maintenance of Nursing personnel’s licensures and certifications to ensure all nursing personnel has up-to-date documentation on record.

·Assists the Director of Staff Development with the preparation and organization of staff in-services.

·Assists the Director of Staff Development with the organizing, auditing, and maintenance of all employee health records (physicals/TB) to ensure all employees are kept up-to-date.

·Assists the Director of Staff Development with the organizing, auditing, and maintenance of all employee I-9’s to ensure all employees are kept up-to-date.

·Assists the Director of Staff Development with both the preparation and the implementation of mandatory staff health testing.

·Assists the Director of Staff Development with organizing, auditing, and maintenance of nursing staff evaluations and competencies to ensure all nursing personnel are up-to-date.

·Assists the Director of Staff Development with recruitment by scheduling interviews, conducting Certified Nursing Assistant interviews, attends off-site job fairs, or assists with in-house job fairs.

·Assists the Director of Staff Development with checking in with new hire nursing staff to get feedback on their training and experience thus far to determine if any support is needed it is gained.

·Assists the Director of Staff Development with monitoring and tracking Certified Nursing Assistant’s time and attendance records for excessive absences, excessive tardiness, meal penalties, and non-adherence to work schedules.

·Assists the Director of Staff Development with the organizing, auditing, and maintenance of in-service records (lesson plans/sign-in-sheets).

·Assists with the training for newly hired Certified Nursing Assistants (CNA’s) by reviewing departmental procedures, safety and health issues, and ensures that the new hire is being properly trained by the employee whom they are shadowing.

·Evaluates the skills of newly hired Certified Nurse Assistants and makes recommendations to the Director of Staff Development regarding the state of a new employee's orientation program.

·Provides constructive feedback to new hires.

·Communicates new programs, interventions, and new procedures with the CNA Staff.

·Ensures that all CNA’s are in their assigned units and performing their resident assignment (string) by conducting audits during various shifts.

·Provides input to Charge Nurses (LVN’s) regarding CNA assignments.

·Conducts rounds to ensure that CNA’s are fulfilling their duties, policies and procedures are being abided by, and the units are maintained properly. All concerns must be promptly addressed to the Director of Staff Development or Human Resources.

·Attends various committee meetings and trainings of the facility (including stand up, safety, and stand-down).

·Maintains confidentiality of both employee and resident information.

·May assist with covering the floor by doing medication pass.

·Assists with the scheduling of Nurses.

·Assists the Director of Staff Development with all inspections.

·Sits in termination and disciplinary meetings for Certified Nursing Assistants.

·Assists the Director of Staff Development with maintaining a directory of nursing telephone numbers.

·Creates and maintains an atmosphere of warmth, personal interest and positive emphasis, as well as a calm environment throughout the facility.

·All other duties as assigned.

·Maintains a current listing of all nursing personnel phone numbers and employment status (FT/PT/On-Call)

·Maintains daily absenteeism calendars for all nursing personnel.

·Reports to the Director of Nursing all nursing employees who are demonstrating excessive tardiness or absenteeism.

·Completes daily and monthly schedules for all nursing personnel.

·Ensures that any changes to the nursing schedules are documented and nursing personnel are informed.

·Responsible for coordinating cancellations to ensure that at least two hour notice was provided to the employee being cancelled.

·Ensures that all nursing personnel call offs are documented on a Change of Status form

·Finds staffing coverage for nursing staff if there is a call off.

·Reviews all leave of absences and paid time off requests to ensure adequate coverage is made for receptionists and nursing personnel.

·Ensures that all requests to change employment statuses are documented on a Change of Status form and turned into the payroll department.

·Ensures that all doctors’ notes or resignations received are turned in a timely manner to the Human Resources Department.

·Answers employee calls or general concerns regarding staffing/scheduling functions.

·Meets with newly hired nursing personnel to make sure they are provided with a work schedule.

·Consults with nursing department staff and supervisors concerning the staffing/scheduling needs: to assist in elimination/correction of problem areas, and/or improvement of services.

·May assist the Director of Nursing with ensuring nursing personnel are addressing missed punches, tardiness, and overtime.

·Ensures that the Human Resources Department is kept abreast of all hiring needs for recruitment purposes.

·Creates and maintains an atmosphere of warmth, personal interest and positive emphasis, as well as a calm environment throughout the facility.

·All other duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience: 

Must possess, as a minimum, a high school education or its equivalent. Associates Degree preferred but not required.

Intermediate level ability with Excel, Outlook and other required software programs.

Preferred 1 year of experience in a Skilled Nursing Facility doing nursing schedules.
