Summary of Duties:
Under the general supervision of the office of the Consul General, the Housekeeping Attendant (HA) ensures that the Consul General’s Official Residence premises is maintained in clean and orderly condition. Including; care of fine art, furniture and china, polishing silver, washing and cleaning floors, table tops and windows, as well as vacuuming/dusting, removing waste and keeping inventory of official items. The Housekeeping Attendant will also perform regular hospitality duties at the office of the Consulate General of Canada and the Consul General’s Official Residence, such as serving food and beverages.
Area of Selection:
Open to all applicants legally residing in the New York Tri-State area (NY, NJ, and CT) in the United States at the time of appointment. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Candidates will initially be screened against the Essential Qualifications relating to education, language* and experience.
  • Candidates must clearly demonstrate when applying to the position how they meet each of these essential qualifications.
  • *Language will be assessed further during the process. 
Education:
Candidates will be required to provide proof of the completion of their education.
  • Successful completion of secondary school or equivalent (GED) 
Language:
  • Intermediate proficiency in English (reading, writing, and speaking). 
Experience:
Minimum three (3) years of recent* work experience in a private residence or fine dining establishment in the following areas;
  • All aspects of general housekeeping, cleaning of residence and upkeep of premises.
  • Serving and/or coordinating service staff (e.g. captain) in a fine dining environment.
  • Laundry and ironing clothing and home linens; care for fine garments,etc.
*Recent as defined in the last 7 years. 
 
RATED REQUIREMENTS
The Rated Requirements are part of the essential qualifications and are relating to knowledge, abilities and competencies. Methods of assessment for rated requirements may include, but are not limited to, a written examination, an oral interview (online pre-recorded/live or in-person), role-play, practical tests, presentations and/or psychometric assessment.
Knowledge:
  • Knowledge of safety regulations regarding the use of household chemical substances, protective gear, safety signs, and ventilation.
  • Knowledge of fine dining service etiquette.
  • Knowledge of cleaning and maintenance of fine art, antiques, furniture, fine surfaces, polishing silver, brass, china, etc.
  • Knowledge (basic) in computer software, including Microsoft Office Suite, e.g., Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Abilities: 
  • Ability to manage multiple competing demands, organize time, and work effectively to meet deadlines with minimum supervision.

Asset Qualifications:
Preference may be given to candidates who meet the Asset Qualifications. Where applicable, candidates must clearly demonstrate how they meet any asset qualifications.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in French orally and in writing.
  • Experience serving food and beverages in a similar setting such as a diplomatic mission, multilateral organization or an official residence.
Operational Requirements:
  • Normal hours of work for this position are in accordance with the Locally Engaged Staff (LES) regulations of 40 hours per week. 
  • Occasional overtime, including evenings, early mornings, and weekends, may be required with advance notice.
  • All work is to be performed on Government of Canada premises (no hybrid/remote opportunities)

Conditions of employment must be met or complied with before being appointed to a particular position, and are to be maintained throughout the employment while being the incumbent of this position.
Valid work authorization: Ability to obtain and hold a valid work authorization covering the entire employment period.
Security screening: Obtain and maintain a Reliability Status (security level) which includes a criminal and credit background check from the Government of Canada covering the entire employment period.
