Accounting Director


SUPERVISOR: Chief Financial Officer

DEPARTMENT: Finance

FLSA STATUS: Exempt

POSITION
SUMMARY

Responsible for handling general accounting functions that help provide separation of duties within the department, thereby enabling the Finance department to safeguard assets while providing internal controls. This position works with the Chief Financial Officer to review financial statements, create month-end journal entries, and perform forecasting and various reconciliations. The Accounting Director will be responsible for the oversight of troop and service unit finances and retail functions.


MAJOR
ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Work closely with the leadership team to establish and implement overall council goals and strategies
  • Understands and applies accounting principles, laws, and regulations about finance; reconciles general ledger accounts; applies internal controls and takes necessary actions; assists with audits and preparing tax returns
  • Reviews and reconciles balance sheet and income statement accounts
  • Prepares or reviews month-end journal entries to provide consolidated financial statements
  • Develops, reviews, and implements policies, procedures, and forms to streamline finance, troop financials, troop debt, and retail functions
  • Reviews and approves accounts payable invoices
  • Approves council-wide Concur expenses and invoices and exports them from Concur into accounting software
  • Supervises and mentors Troop Liaison and retail staff
  • Prepares inventory, cookie, and fall reconciliations annually
  • Creates, produces, and manages all RFP processes for all financial relationships
  • Prepares and manages forecasting models to share with the Leadership Team
  • Manages Magazine Trust
  • Manages the KPI's and KRI's for the organization
  • Aids Chief Financial Officer with annual audit preparation and 990 review
  • Provides training for staff on the use of systems that are administered by the finance department (expense manager, Square, and onboarding)
  • Oversees the finance and retail budgets
  • Provides oversight for the strategic planning, implementation, operational logistics, analysis, and evaluation of all retail functions
  • Completes other duties as assigned

In the spirit of teamwork, we require that requests for assistance be met with collaborative enthusiasm by all team Examples may include but are not limited to membership recruitment/renewal campaigns and efforts, product program logistics and support to include cookie cupboards and volunteer assistance, volunteer appreciation and engagement, retail inventory and delivery (among regional offices), program signature event participation, and support, and property maintenance/improvement as requested.

KNOWLEDGE AND CREDENTIAL
QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • Bachelor's degree, with an emphasis in accounting or business
  • Minimum of 3 years of hands-on accounting and 1 year of supervisory experience
  • Excellent computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and Word
  • Strong general ledger, accounts payable, fixed assets, and banking working knowledge
  • Impeccable math skills to successfully lead and manage responsibilities
  • Valid driver's license and safe driving record


Preferred

  • Knowledge of Abila/Sage accounting software
  • Knowledge of Concur Solutions software
  • Knowledge of Girl Scout Leadership Experience

  • Proven, genuine ability and willingness to translate complex financial reporting into easily understood material and to communicate it as requested
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a management team, volunteers, and staff
