OVERVIEW OF POSITION: The Council trainer is responsible to deliver training to volunteers and staff to support their onboarding and retention. The trainer maintains database files and appropriate follow-up to ensure staff and volunteers complete required training. Works with other managers to determine training needs and facilitate as needed. The trainer works with the Sr. Director to update and add new training as needed. The trainer will support volunteer trainers throughout the council footprint to ensure volunteer trainers are confident and prepared to facilitate training for other volunteer leaders.

  • Facilitation of appropriate training to staff and volunteers at onboarding and as needed to support retention of volunteers and staff
  • Development and maintenance of process for tracking training for volunteers and staff
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES: This list is not meant to be exhaustive of all tasks and responsibilities. Other duties may be assigned as needed or may be unique to a specific instance of a job.
Accountability Area / Responsibility
Implement and track the council’s volunteer training
  • Ensure Service Unit team positions have regular training options
  • Ensure volunteers/troop leaders have options to attend council required trainings
  • Promotes self led trainings to volunteers to utilize
  • Offers optional Girl Scout level meetings
  • Meets established objectives and satisfaction scores for all courses delivered.
  • Ensures to deliver the Girl Scouts’ message of pluralism and diversity to all members
  • Ensures volunteers/troop leaders/SU teams are aware of their learning options and requirements on gsLearn
  • Track volunteer trainings, and provide necessary follow up to volunteers to completed requirements
  • Schedule subject matter experts for adult enrichment opportunities that are both educational and fun
  • Recruit, train, support volunteer trainers
  • Provides required reports as needed
  • Provide volunteer trainers with assigned training needed to be confident and prepared to facilitate training for other volunteers
  • Periodically evaluate ongoing trainings to ensure they reflect any changes
  • Utilize and stay current with all GSUSA trainings
Delivery support onboarding and development of staff
  • Ensuring new staff receive the assigned onboarding and ongoing training.
  • Works with managers to ensure their staff have a full understanding of systems and processes.
  • Track staff trainings and follow up for completion
  • Have an overall knowledge of council systems to be able to support staff in basic learning of them (VTK, gsLearn, Salesforce, etc)
  • Update managers of new GSUSA trainings for their department, and assign to their teams as requested
  • Complete course evaluations after each training session conducted. Evaluate personal performance and participate in personal development to maintain and improve delivery skills.
  • Periodically evaluate ongoing trainings to ensure they reflect any changes
  • Stay up to date on GSUSA and GSCSNJ strategies and initiatives.
Skills and Education Required:
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • 1 years of professional experience to include: Teaching or training experience; professional certification in training or teaching a plus-ability to work well with people of multiple cultures and backgrounds. Ability to learn and facilitate a wide range of training designed by Girl Scouts or other agencies. These could include training related to staff needs, troop leader skills, parent engagement, how to utilize Girl Scout data management systems (gsLearn, gsLooker, gsConnect, Salesforce, VTK, etc) Volunteer Relations – understands the functions of volunteers; demonstrates flexibility to meet with volunteers; effectively delegates responsibility; monitors use of volunteers within existing constraints and guidelines; recognizes volunteer accomplishments; works effectively with volunteers.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
  • Technical computer skills in Google G Suite for documents, spreadsheets, and presentations, customer relationship management systems, and social networking. Must be able to learn, understand, and apply new technologies with ability to understand basic data quality principles and practices.

Physical Requirements: For office-based positions, the general physical expectations are that:
  • Individuals will be able to read materials and respond in writing or verbally.
  • Individuals will actively participate in meetings in person or over the phone.
  • Individuals will be able to operate a computer keyboard, calculator, copier machine, and other office equipment.
  • Individuals will primarily perform tasks at a sitting desk.
  • Individuals will move around the office as needed to gather files, attend meetings, etc

Other Expectations:
Will spend ~25% of time outside of the office so reliable transportation is required
Work predominantly performed during evenings and weekends
