Ginkgo BioWorks is Hiring a Remote Associate Director, Total Rewards

Our mission is to make biology easier to engineer. Ginkgo is constructing, editing, and redesigning the living world in order to answer the globe's growing challenges in health, energy, food, materials, and more. Our bioengineers make use of an in-house automated foundry for designing and building new organisms.

This position is responsible for providing leadership for Ginkgo's global benefits strategy, philosophy, and administration across the company. The Associate Director, Total Rewards will design health, welfare and retirement programs that will enhance Ginkgo's value proposition, allowing the Company to attract, reward and retain top talent. The selected incumbent will be a key contributor on the Ginkgo Total Rewards Team.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a global benefit strategy ensuring Ginkgo provides competitive benefits that enable the company to attract, motivate and retain our employees.
  • Reviews current plans ensuring alignment with strategy, teammate feedback, external competitiveness and provides recommendations for new and/or revised plans based upon findings.
  • Manages a strong relationship with brokers, benefit plan providers and consultants. Negotiates with providers, continuously ensuring the effectiveness of the programs.
  • Oversees and executes the administration of benefit plans, including medical, dental, vision, life and AD&D insurance, short-term disability, long-term disability, 401k, leaves of absence, wellness initiatives, and any other related benefits programs and policies.
  • Leads annual open enrollment process including plan design changes, rate negotiations, communications and enrollment activities.
  • Develops and delivers employee benefit communications and educational programs, ensuring a high level of employee engagement and understanding of programs.
  • Maintains awareness of ongoing benefits compliance that may have an impact on the company's benefits plans.
  • Manage benefits projects from inception to implementation.
  • Partner with other members of the benefits and HRIS/HRIT teams on benefits related enhancements to Workday.
  • Participate in benefits due diligence analysis for potential acquisitions.
  • Additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in HR, Finance, Accounting, or other business-related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the key accountabilities of the job.
  • At least 8 years of progressive experience in Benefits/Total Rewards with Master's degree; 12 years with Bachelor's or commensurate experience .
  • Experience and strong knowledge of all facets of benefits - Health, Welfare and Retirement.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.

Desired Qualifications

  • Certified Benefits Professional (CBP)/Certified Employee Benefits (CEBS) certification or coursework toward CBP/CEBS.
  • Experience working with benefits in a global organization.
  • Experience with Workday.
  • Ability to travel occasionally.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication/language skills required to include the ability to provide written and verbal instructions, compile and present business reports/correspondence, and present information clearly.
  • Capable of planning and organizing work and processes; ability to self-direct projects and meet deadlines.
  • Exceptional reasoning ability and good judgment to assist with complex business decisions.

Total compensation for this role is market driven, with a starting salary of $135K , as well as company stock awards. Base pay is ultimately determined based on a candidate's skills, expertise, and experience. We also offer a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental & vision coverage, health spending accounts, voluntary benefits, leave of absence policies, Employee Assistance Program, 401(k) program with employer contribution, 8 paid holidays in addition to a full-week winter shutdown and unlimited Paid Time Off policy.
