About the Office of Information Technology (OIT)
The Office of Information Technology (OIT) provides information technology leadership and support to the Georgia Institute of Technology, working in partnership with academic and business units to meet the unique needs of a leading research university. OIT serves as the primary source of enterprise-wide information technology and telecommunications services in support of students, faculty, staff, and researchers.
This position is the top networking architecture and design function for Georgia Tech's campus and is responsible for the campus network engineering technology plans, specifications and implementations including all voice, data, wireless, and network assets. This position represents Georgia Tech at national network technology forums as well as executive leadership for other programs and projects. This position will interact on a consistent basis with: Executive leadership, Directors, Managers, IT personnel, administrative and financial staff, both internal and external to the Institute.This position will typically advise and counsel: Same as above.This position will supervise: Department managers for Network Backbone, Telecomm, CATV, Wireless, and Engineering Teams.
Job Duty 1 -
Oversee all campus network architecture design, planning, development and implementation to ensure optimum performance, accessibility, and reliability of network resources to the GT community

Develop, lead, and counsel staff through coaching, education, mentoring, and providing continual evaluation of employee development with the end goal of ensuring top performance
Job Duty 3 -
Define 24/7 network monitoring metrics and response criteria; Collaborate with system management team to deploy and maintain the required networking tools; Ensure solutions and services are linked to business strategy with measurable benefit

Participate in budgetary planning by assessing department and customer requirements, outlining anticipated expenditures and proposing fund allocation to support the needs of the Institute

Executive leadership and strategic development for other programs and projects

Support and contribute to the Campus Strategic planning process; Prepare reports, briefings, business models, and operational plans for presentation to Senior and Executive Campus Leadership.

Educational Requirements
Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, Engineering, Computer Science or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience
Other Required Qualifications

SKILLS
Experience designing and managing networks that support very large, high traffic public internet sites. Extensive knowledge of load balancing products and techniques. Demonstrated experience with principal network equipment, carriers, current network technologies, and current web application technologies. Solid understanding of IT Security best practices with extensive knowledge of firewall, IPS, and IDS and other means of securing and controlling unauthorized access to data. Expertise with data center equipment and management best practices, and familiarity with SAN/NAS technologies, and database technologies. Ability to motivate and lead engineering and operational support groups, with a demonstrated track record of building and maintaining highly collaborative, flexible, and productive cross-organization teams. Ability to facilitate collaboration among internal and external resources. Comprehensive knowledge of local and wide area IP networking engineering including: bandwidth provisioning and security programs for very high bandwidth internet sites; carrier-class telecommunications services; unicast and multicast streaming media distribution technologies, load balancing and failover management technology, network management tools, an caching environment design and integration.
