Job Overview
The Resident Assistant (RA) - in a temporary role - manages group logistics
for the Student Leaders Program, and serves as a resource to the students while they navigate their new surroundings and program expectations. While in Washington, DC, the RA works five days per week based on a rotating schedule, stays in Georgetown University dorms with the Student Leaders, and is available to students at least four evenings per week.
Work Interactions
In duties coordinated by the staff of the GU Student Leaders Team, the RA provides direct support to the 15 Student Leaders during their 45-day Leadership Institute and works in a team with two additional Resident Assistants.
The RA reports to the Director and Assistant Director of the GU Student Leaders Program team, and interacts with the SL Academic Director, faculty, lecturers and presenters, as well as with staff of volunteer organizations that the Student Leaders Program visits.
The RA has a great opportunity to learn about the MENA region from college students and youth leaders, and helps ensure that the Student Leaders receive the guidance and support they need to have a successful Summer Leadership Institute experience.
Duties include but are not limited to:
Coordination and Planning
Meet regularly with the GU administrative team to plan activities and discuss Student Leader concerns.
Work in a team with two additional RAs to divide up work responsibilities, plan social outings, and provide RA coverage.
Logistics and Student Support
Manage group movement logistics, attendance, and troubleshoot problems and concerns.
Assist student with homework guidance and support project activities.
Participate in all program activities including attending classes, accompanying Student Leaders on outings and participating in cultural enrichment and leadership development activities.
Immediately inform program staff of any area of student concern.
Initiate and maintain positive relationships with visiting Student Leaders.
Conduct problem resolution mediation between students when necessary.
Health and Cultural Adaptation Support and Intervention
Keep abreast of personal concerns and issues related to student well-being.
Accompany student leader(s) to medical facility in event of illness or accident
Keep GU program staff immediately informed of all medical needs and corresponding interventions.
Complete health incident reports when student seeks medical care
Be available (in person, by email, phone, and text) to the students to share and interpret, when necessary, cultural experiences and listen attentively to all student concerns and questions.
Guide and support student intercultural learning.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree - recent college graduate by this year and not enrolled at Georgetown University at the start date of this position
Preference for Resident Assistant experience and/or interest in working with students from the MENA region
