GEM Technologies Inc. is Hiring a Regulatory specialist Near Richland, WA

GEM Technologies, Inc. (GEM) is seeking a Environmental Regulatory Specialist to join our team. This position is full-time and will support the Hanford Site in Richland, WA.

Clearance Level Required :

Overview :

  • Review and fact-check for accuracy and adequacy of air permit documents (i.e., source documents and PTE calculations), strategies, schedules, modeling runs and source term and emission calculations, design packages, modifications, toxic best available control technology, and non-toxic best available technology while providing technical and regulatory recommendations to the ECD Director.
  • Provide consulting and strategic recommendations to ECD Director based upon the review of recent regulatory guidance and input in air permitting documents.

Support the development and implementation of divisional strategies and processes to advance the environmental division support of the Hanford Site mission.

  • Support coordination of reviews, developments of comments, walk-downs, meeting, and attendance with regulatory agencies.
  • Conduct and support regulatory and environmental process assessments to identify trends, improvements, successes, and lessons learned to maintain compliance and continuous improvement.
  • Document assessment actions and activities with improvement recommendations and process improvements within the corrective action system and trending documents.
  • Summarize contractor oversight actions and activities and support the ECD Director in quarterly evaluations and contractor oversight functions.
  • Perform consolidation of comments for DOE Hanford submittal to the contractor, and comment resolution, in the areas of criterion / toxic air permitting.
  • Assist AMSE in the development of air permitting compliance policy, Site-wide strategies, regulatory options, and prioritization.

Support systems and processes that document the air permitting mechanisms on site and evaluate the implementation of these systems by the site contractors.

  • Assist with permit required document submittals such as sampling analysis plans and other technical deliverables.
  • Participate in air permitting discussions, walk-downs, meeting attendance with DOE, contractors and regulatory agencies.
  • Provide periodic reports of work overseen and identification of any compliance deviations.
  • Perform follow-up on issues, findings, and other areas of concern.
  • Participate in meetings with senior management team, including preparation of meeting minutes and presentation materials.

Interface with DOE project personnel on the development, review, and application of permitting actions needed to support mission and project activities and mission related milestones.

Assist with development of regulatory schedules or milestones with specific durations for various phases of air permits.

Document the status and process steps of environmental permitting actions to support project schedules and mission deliverables.

Clearance & Citizenship Requirement :

  • To be considered, you must be able to obtain and maintain a government issued clearance, if needed.
  • Due to the federal nature of the work, a U.S. Citizenship is requ ired.

About the Site :

The Hanford Site, located within a 580-square-mile section of semi-arid desert in Richland, Washington, was established in 1943 as part of the Manhattan Project to produce plutonium for national defense.

Here, the DOE focuses on environmental restoration, waste management, scientific and environmental research and development of radioactive waste technologies.

Under the Tri-Party Agreement, lower-level hazardous wastes are buried in huge, lined pits that will be sealed and monitored with sophisticated instruments for many years ( energy.gov ).

GEM’s offered compensation is dependent on candidates’ education, qualifications, and relevant years of experience.

  • Bachelor’s Degree and 10 years of DOE Hanford experience.
  • Working level knowledge of radioactive waste retrieval and treatment, infrastructure projects, and site remediation activities.
  • Ability to interface successfully with senior level management.
  • Ability to work effectively with government, regulatory agencies, and contractor personnel to solve problems and formulate strategies for success.
  • Experience in supporting programs and projects with analysis, tracking, monitoring, assessments, walk-downs, reviews and coordination.
  • Extensive experience in using MS Word, MS PowerPoint, Excel, and / or other MS Office tools.
  • Identification of any conflicts, potential conflicts, or perceived conflicts of interest with any Hanford Site contractors.
  • Working level knowledge of DOE program and project management practices, policies, and procedures (preferred).
  • Working level knowledge of Hanford Site mission, Tri-Party Agreement, activities and priorities (preferred).
