Education

• High school diploma or GED

Experience

• One year of experience in a medical office or hospital environment is recommended.
• Minimum of 1 year experience in insurance verification, ICD 9 & 10 coding or equivalent.

Duties and Tasks

• Works under the direction of the Billing Lead to perform daily precertification process.
• Handles incoming precertification fax and calls and maintains a respectful, professional demeanor on all calls with customers.
• Individual must stay educated on all insurance company requirements and payor information at all times in a continually changing environment.
• Enters new patient demographics into the computer system, verifies insurance including billing address, group number and benefits.
• Attend meetings as directed by management.
• Other duties as assigned.

• Ability to relate to people, in person and on the telephone, in a pleasant, business-like manner.
• Ability to communicate verbally in a friendly compassionate and courteous manner with patients and their families and coworkers.
• Ability to work well with others Ability to take direction from management.
• Must have the knowledge to count and do basic arithmetic calculations.
• Must have the ability to read and write English at high school level.
• Maintain confidentiality and compliance with HIPAA.
• Familiar with computer and telephone operations.
• Detail oriented.
