Position Objective: Provide services as a Biologist (Liquid Handling) in support of the overall functions of the Vaccine Immunology Program (VIP) within the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID).

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Adopt, optimize, and qualify various types of assays on automated liquid handling systems such as the Biomek i7.
• Serve as a subject matter expert for automation and immunoassays (PK, ADA, cell-based, etc).
• Create new automation and analysis pipelines to streamline testing needs; perform bridging and tech transfer of these pipelines as needed.
• Lead other analysts in running various assays needed for protocols in a GCLP environment.
• Schedule and perform preventative maintenance on the various automation equipment following GCLP requirements.
• Follow approved SOPs to complete testing of samples in an organized, aseptic, high-throughput manner
• Write and revise SOPs within VIP’s electronic database as needed.
• Uphold rapid turn-around times of specimen samples by effectively managing resources while maintaining high standards of accuracy.
• Maintain supplies and reagents for scheduled tests.
• Implement new critical reagent and laboratory management systems to optimize efficiency and GCLP compliance.
• Adjust quickly to changes in schedule as priorities and reagents shift.
• Follow GCLP guidelines and maintain records for tests performed.
• Wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in a BSL-2 laboratory.
• Work collaboratively with team members to complete all tasks, but also be accountable as an individual for personal tasks.
• Utilize various laboratory equipment such as Biological Safety Cabinet (BSC), centrifuge, pipettes, liquid nitrogen tank, and others.
• Schedule, document, and maintain cell lines for assays.
• Utilize VIP’s LIMS system by including entering test results on samples.
• Work with dry ice, freezers, and liquid nitrogen tanks to store clinical samples, while always wearing appropriate PPE.
• Maintain close and effective communications with VIP management and external collaborators.
• Present project outcomes to internal and external parties as required.

Basic Qualifications:

• BS with 3 years of experience in a BSL-2 laboratory, working with automated liquid handlers.

Minimum Qualifications:

• IT skills such that candidate knows or can quickly learn to utilize LIMS, EDMS, Microsoft Office, etc.
• Ability to work well with others and independently.
• Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, with non-technical and technical staff.
• Detail-oriented and possess strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and projects
