Required Qualifications:
- Certification in laboratory animal science- Bachelor’s degree in Biology or a related discipline (four years of specialized experience plus a high school diploma is equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree)- Strong communication skills, both oral and written- Excellent analytical, organizational, interpersonal, and time management skills- Proficiency in MS Office, Imaris, Neurolmfor, and other relevant software
Responsibilities:
- Study the environmental effects on animal physiology and behavior- Conduct research on animal selection and breeding- Perform laboratory and animal technical duties associated with the Laboratory's Animal Welfare Program (ASP)- Maintain animal colonies and inventory- Perform surgeries on animals, including perfusion, tissue harvest, and molecular biological analyses- Analyze animal tissues using confocal microscopy and other techniques- Support oversight and progress of critical results in animal-based experiments- Maintain database for all research activities and ensure compliance with safety protocols

Desired Qualifications:
- Familiarity with regulatory compliance in laboratory animal research- Experience with advanced molecular biology techniques- Proficiency in data analysis software beyond the specified ones (Imaris, NeuroInfor)- Knowledge of and experience with Animal BioSafety Levels (ABSLs)- Previous experience in managing and coordinating multiple animal studies concurrently- Demonstrated ability to edit and write research papers and protocols- Experience in overseeing and evaluating behavioral and histological phenotypes of animals- Familiarity with Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) and routine animal observations- Experience in the preparation of data and images for research presentations and publications- Prior experience working with federal agencies, particularly in the public health sector- Strong commitment to maintaining sample identification and preventing cross-contamination in laboratory procedures- Proven ability to facilitate entry of service personnel and facility users for routine hygiene and disinfection of research implements
