Community Relations Specialist The Arizona Republic/azcentral.com, part of the USA TODAY NETWORK, is seeking a person to assist with community relations projects and initiative including annual giving campaigns, grant writing/reporting and donor/funder cultivation. Additionally, this person will have event management experience to help us grow newsroom events in support of our journalism. This position reports to the Community Relations Director and provides support to the Executive Editor and other newsroom leaders. The job is about matching the newsroom's solutions-oriented journalism with local and corporate giving-back initiatives. It's also about funding the work of our journalists: -- The annual Season for Sharing initiative raises and distributes about $2 million a year through a competitive grant process for Arizona nonprofits. Additionally, the community relations team advises on corporate giving-back initiatives for the USA Today Network's five-state western region. -- The community relations team manages several incoming philanthropic grants that help fund journalists and coverage of key topics. This revenue stream is growing. Public events organized by the team include the 10-year-old Arizona Storytellers series, documentary film screenings, town halls, community roundtables and a speakers bureau. This job is about building connections to our communities, nurturing partnerships and donors, promoting our journalism and maintaining The Republic's standing a solid corporate citizen in Greater Phoenix and throughout Arizona. Responsibilities: Assist with grant tracking and reporting calendars.Assist writing and editing grants and reports for foundational donors. Manage relevant social media channels. Help manage grant-related correspondence. Update donor correspondence, including solicitation and acknowledgment letters, as needed and help manage the timely acknowledgement of contributions. Help ensure effective and accurate communication with the finance department and other organizational leaders. Help ensure donor records are accurate and up to date. Follow reports and developments in the local nonprofit community. Manage coaching and logistics for Arizona Storytellers and other public events. Help monitor the execution of partnership and in-kind agreements, including the proper use of the Republic's brand. Requirements: Bachelor's or master’s degree in journalism or related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience. At least a year of professional fundraising, journalism and/or event management experience. High-level writing, communication and time management skills. Demonstrated ability to work well on deadline. Knowledge of AP style, news reporting/writing and database management preferred. Ability to work independently. Ability to multi-task and solve problems efficiently. This role requires a valid driver's license, reliable transportation and the minimum liability insurance required by law.
