About the Role
Freethink is seeking an Editor to work with our partner, Stand Together, on sponsored articles. Stand Together invests in innovative solutions to the country’s biggest challenges. We collaborate with Stand Together to tell stories about changemakers in education, criminal justice, mental health, addiction, and more.
Freethink is a new media publisher telling stories from the frontiers of our rapidly changing world. We publish short-form videos covering innovators, entrepreneurs, and activists who are thinking differently and making a difference. We also publish articles covering technology, science, and important social issues.
Our team is located all across America. Together, we’re building the kind of media company we all want to work for: curious, experimental, and ambitious.What You’ll Do
- Edit - We plan to hire two staff writers to create content for Stand Together. Part of your job will be to assign and edit their stories.
- Recruit - The Stand Together sponsorship also will require that we identify new freelance writers to help generate content. You will help recruit those writers.
- Manage - Implied in all this is an ability to manage projects and other people. Careful attention to detail and timelines is crucial.
- Collaborate - Part of the job will involve collaborating with the partnership services team as well as Stand Together on creating content.
What You’ll Need
- 8 years of experience in journalism with an ability to cover a wide range of topics.
- 1 years of managing other writers.
- Extreme, almost obsessive attention to detail.
- Flexibility (this is not a typical 9-to-5 job).
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, quickly growing startup and learn quickly.
- Unparalleled verbal and especially written communication skills.
- Love of our type of journalism — intelligent, thought-provoking, often uplifting, and the exact opposite of the cynicism and partisanship that drives mainstream media outlets.
