Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center is an independent, nonprofit organization providing adult cancer treatment and groundbreaking research focused on cancer and infectious diseases. Based in Seattle, Fred Hutch is the only National Cancer Institute-designated cancer center in Washington.

The Warren Lab within the Translational Science and Therapeutics Division and the Global Oncology Program seeks a Lab Technician II to perform routine laboratory tasks under the close supervision of the lab manager or other lab personnel.

Duties include, but are not limited to, the maintenance of critical equipment, inventory of biospecimens, re-stocking tissue culture supplies and reagents, monitoring glassware, taking weekly inventory, processing biohazard waste and other housekeeping chores. May include some light clerical duties.

This position will also assist in the shipment of biological specimens, reagents and consumables internationally. These include cold chain and ambient shipments.

Responsibilities

This is a 50% FTE position expected to work no more than 20 hours per week.

The incumbent works under the close supervision of the Lab Manager or other lab personnel.

JOB DUTIES

• Management and inventory of our medical supplies donation program.
• Responsible for shipping and receiving of ambient and cold-chain items, customs clearance form preparation and shipment pickup.
• Set up and calibrate laboratory apparatus and instruments; read and record instrument data; enter and tabulate data; keep laboratory records.
• Perform minor maintenance and repair of laboratory apparatus and instruments.
• Wash and clean laboratory areas and equipment.
• Assist research scientists and research technicians in preparing laboratory equipment, apparatus and chemicals for experiments.
• Inventory chemicals, supplies and equipment. Order laboratory equipment and supplies as needed.
• Assist with library research and clerical work.
• Perform other duties as assigned and independently complete/troubleshoot and send reports to management upon completion.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

• One year of college courseware emphasizing laboratory science or equivalent or one year experience as a Laboratory Tech I or equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bachelors degree preferred or 3 years working in a laboratory setting as a Laboratory Technician I equivalent.
• College level chemistry courses preferred.
• IATA training, Dry Ice and Biological Shipping Training required.
• Must be able to work well with others and independently.
• Strong communication skills.

The hourly pay range for this position is from $20.14 to $28.67 and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.
